All 4 had nice debuts so it'll be interesting to track their progress throughout the season. As expected, none are projected to be the Week 1 starter but thinking Trubisky and Kizer get the nod before Mahomes/Watson, but more because of the starter in front of them.

    Trubisky:
    18 of 25, 166 yards, 1 TD

    Mahomes:
    7 of 9, 49 yards, 1 TD

    Watson:
    15 of 25, 179, 1 Rushing TD

    Kizer:
    11 of 18, 184 yards, 1 TD

Early conclusions are easy based on the first preseason games.

On to round two, which should give us an idea about round three which will telegraph the opening game starters.

Because I work with a hard core Bears fan, I'm following that as closely as the Texans situation.

One of the weakest projected QB classes could turn out to be one of the strongest. And yeah, preseason is preseason (especially game 1), but it's more fun to be optimistic, no?

That Mahomes kid has a great arm.

The Bears QB situation is the most intriguing IMO. Giving Glennon that huge deal, trading a ton to move up 1 spot for Trubisky, Glennon looking awful/Trubisky looking wordly (yes it's preseason but still), etc...

Why do we care about how the non-Texans players are doing?

Because in hindsight, people will start to compare our guy with this guy and that guy from the same draft class. Talk about who we "shoulda got" rather than what we currently have.

It's one big ass circle jerk for fans to compare one athlete to another, but sh**, we all do it anyway! Cause it's "fun".

    Scheme fit.

You all realize the QB we drafted must be able to digest our complex playbook. As well as lead a locker room filled with seadoned veterans.

It'd be awesome if the top 4 or 5 qbs in this draft succeed (top 3 for sure). It'll give these goes something extra to compete against and hopefully be the next line of qbs.

It'd be even better if the qbs coming out next year are not as good.

Wouldn't it be something of these guys turned out to be the best QB group to come out in a while? Especially after all the hate they got during the draft process.

According to NFL scouts every QB class is a weak class except when you have a Luck, Manning, elway etc.

True but more so for this class compared to the last 3. Based on NFL.com's draft grades, Watson and Mahomes would have been the 4th and 5th best QB respectively last year and the 5th/6th the year before Winston and Mariota's class.

    Trubisky: 6.3
    Watson: 5.9
    Mahomes: 5.8
    Kizer: 5.7

    Wentz: 6.5
    Goff: 6.5
    Lynch: 6.1
    Cook: 5.8

    Winston: 6.7
    Mariota: 6.2
    Petty: 5.4 (Big dropoff)

    Bortles: 6.2
    Bridgewater: 6.1
    Carr: 6.1
    Manziel: 6.1

This also shows how much of a crap shoot these grades are too. Looks like they had a different system back then but even Geno Smith was graded out as an immediate starter while Watson, Mahomes, and Kizer are in the "could become an early starter."

QB Patrick Mahomes, 76.4 overall grade
The Chiefs first-round pick had a solid night completing 71 percent of his passes for a pair of touchdowns while adding 29 yards on just three carries. Mahomes showed his athleticism outside of the pocket and displayed the arm strength that caught the NFL’s attention before the draft. Mahomes’ most important statistic of the night however, was having a “Zero” in the turnover column. He finished the evening with an impressive 83.3 adjusted completion percentage.

do you guys think Mahomes was our pick? Texans panicked and moved up for the next best?

I don't think panic is the right word, but I do think they had a plan in motion for each contingency that occurred. It wouldn't surprise me if they had Mahomes ahead of Watson on their board though.

Yes, I think a version of this happened, in that at least the Texans wanted Watson in the second round if not Mahomes in the first.

    Trubisky:
    18 of 25, 166 yards, 1 TD
    6 of 8, 60 yards, 1 TD

    Mahomes:
    7 of 9, 49 yards, 1 TD
    10 of 14, 88 yards, 2 TDs

    Watson:
    15 of 25, 179 yards, 1 Rushing TD
    3 of 10, 102 yards, 1 Rushing TD

    Kizer:
    11 of 18, 184 yards, 1 TD

Trubisky and Mahomes with another good showing. Both guys showing accuracy and ability to make different throws.

Not a very good game for Watson on the other hand. Missed on 3-4 throws that should have been catches for short yardage. Found Ellington open for big yardage in the first half. Nice throw to Foreman in a tight window to set up another rushing TD. With as much talk there was about his arm strength, he throws with a lot of velocity which can lead to a lot of tipped passes if not on target. Picked up a 1st down and TD on the ground.

Will get another look at Kizer tomorrow night.

Watson had a really bad underthrow in this game as well.

Pass with 9:40 left in the third to Thompson I think.

Thompson had to play defense on the DB
