I'll be very surprised if we trade Clowney this year given the situation. My fear is with his holdout he won't be in football shape and he'll get some injury that will impact his ability to contribute this year and lower his value for a trade after the season. I think the Texans wanted to franchise him this year and see how he performs. If he can produce another consistent and injury free season maybe they give him the longer term deal. If they don't and franchise him again, that would seem to indicate they're fearful of his health and don't want to tie up money in him long-term.
As I've reported, Dolphins talked to Houston about Clowney. Jay Glazer reports Houston has talked to 10 teams, including Dolphins. — Barry Jackson (@flasportsbuzz) August 23, 2019
https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/barry-jackson/article234221447.html We previously reported that Miami had inquired about Houston outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney - who’s holding out for a new contract - and Fox’s Jay Glazer said the Dolphins are among 10 teams that have inquired about trading for him and called as recently as last week. But the Dolphins would be reluctant to give up a high draft pick in case it needs that pick to move up in the draft for a quarterback, as colleague Armando Salguero and I have been told.
Clowney for OLine starter, 4th rounder which can be a 3rd round pick conditionally and a 6th for a 5th rounder swap
If the best you can get for a former #1 pick in the draft is a 3rd or 4th, I'm for holding on to him. Pass rushers are always in demand in this league and pressure builds on teams that lack them in-season to make a move.
I suspect both the Trent Williams and Jadeveon Clowney situations are going to get wrapped up pretty quickly. Both have multiple suitors. — Benjamin Allbright (@AllbrightNFL) August 23, 2019
He does since the Texans franchised him Instead is trading before the franchise deadline he haven’t signed the tender yet and if he not going to commit the Texans won’t get much back ....
