Unless they just know his knee is about to blow out I don't see why they don't want to pay him.

As in #8 or #9? And the Texans said no? JD going to Buffalo would certainly cement him as Mario 2.0!!

You don’t see why they don’t want to guarantee him damn near a $100M?

That's a big jump from $65 guaranteed to $100 guaranteed. I don't see how JD could be looking for naything near $100 mil guaranteed.

Maybe I missed it but where are you seeing $65M? If he’s looking for Donald/Mack type money, you’re looking closer to $100M than $65M guaranteed.

Demarcus Lawrence got 65 guaranteed. Donald got 87 guaranteed. He's somewhere in the middle.

Ahhh the weekly "Texans/Clowney not close on a deal" non-update update.
Will check back in next week. :)

A guy named Patrick Storm posted on Twitter that Clowney will be gone soon. My brother says this guy is money. I've seen a lot where he has been wrong.

Still, as I said before, a lot of smoke though.

Sorry, I don't do Twitter to post it.

Just speculating on what I have heard from a few people, one being an agent, not Clowney's:

Texans are not budging on a deal less than what DLaw signed in Dallas. Clowney is asking between that contract and Mack's.

There are rumors of a deal for clowney to another team on draft night that I have heard are false. The team will continue to try to resign him until the season starts where they will break off negotiations until after the season.

His reps are telling the team he will not show. There is a chance he misses part of the season sitting this out. The texans fully intend on trying to franchise him again next offseason if he does not agree to the terms they are offering. After that, the thought is they may let him walk for a compensatory pick.

Agents are watching and are not 100% sure why the team is doing what they are doing with him. Talks of his reinjury appear to be false too so they are dragging their feet in an effort to get him to cave.

Similar to Badger, when Clowney is finally gone, there will be a release that they were close to the number he signs for.

As for my thoughts: if you intend to play hardball with your offer and wont budge, trade him. There are teams out there willing to offer a first in a draft that has a lot of dlinemen with talent. I do not understand two franchise tags and then accepting a 3rd round comp pick when he walks. Loser strategy from a loser front office IMO.

Its one thing to say and act like you want to build through the draft. Its another thing entirely to have a great player that you drafted be frustrated and eventually allowed to leave because you wouldnt pay him a contract. Yes the contract is high, but you let the market set his price. You could have acted more quickly and signed him before for less. You chose to wait, just like with Badger, and the number got too high for your liking.

Like I said before, loser mentality.

The draft is roughly two weeks away. If he's gonna be moved draft time seems most logical to me.

Assuming that is what he means. "Soon" being relative.

All this talk just screams Texans getting ready for another screw up

Then when the new unis come out, they’ll hope we all forget
