If it's any consolation, serving 120 days in the juvenile system is way, way worse than adult prison. When I worked in prisons as a network tech the place I really, really watched my back was Gainesville State School.

In adult prison, if an offender screws up, the entire cell block/area gets punished by loss of privileges (one of the worst things you can do to an inmate is take away their ESPN or Soap Operas). Then the other prisoners punish the guy who violated the rules. The inmates are all very institutionalized- it's their way of life, and most people value structure and security (as it is). They don't want to rock the boat.

In TJJD, there are tons of protections built in for minors that preclude the mass punishment of areas. Punishments are also pretty light. So the guards are pretty much just riding heard on a bunch of chaos. Can you imagine a bunch of angry, psychotic, rebellious teenage boys without the complimentary teenage girls around? Lots of random cruelty, including rape. Little pretty spoiled rich white boys don't stand a chance.

So when Couch gets to kid jail, he will get a nice dose of justice, even if it's just for four months. Way worse than a cushy stint in a low security prison where the guards and inmates can be paid off to leave him alone.

Will the kid get to be bonded to fight his extradition from a Puerto Vallarta resort, or does he have to do it while in custody? If the latter, I totally don't mind him delaying.

Also, I can't imagine the delays he can throw up can be nearly as long as El Chapo's. El Chapo has a lot more going for him. He is a Mexican citizen and could face the death penalty in the US. Couch is a US citizen traveling on some tourist visa and does not face the death penalty. El Chapo probably has all the top-shelf prosecutors in Mexico working on his case though, and Couch's extradition is probably not a priority. But, otherwise, I have to think El Chapo has more arrows in his quiver than this kid.

He may not end up in kid jail. I think his birthday is in April an he's ineligible at that point (thus why the DA wants to transfer his case out of the juvenile system). So if he can delay his extradition for 3 months, he avoids that.

'Affluenza Teen' Is Back In The U.S. To Face Charges

The Dallas Morning News reports that Couch "landed at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport on an Aeromexico flight, and Tarrant County sheriff's deputies were expected to escort him to the county's juvenile detention center in North Fort Worth."

Parents did their job and got him into college, the last best chance for someone to improve their life and craft their identity in spite of their upbringing or economic background. The kid deluded and destroyed himself by thinking it was a never ending spring break.
