The GM was fired and he wasn't. How often does a coach get to work with 3 GMs when they haven't won anything more than a couple division titles in a bad division or with the easiest schedule in the NFL? Yes, after an 11-5 season and another division title t-shirt no one should ever buy. He shouldn't have been given an extension when they did. This was a team that won despite the coach. I realize you're one of his defenders and that's fine. Many of us see things a little differently. I see the 2006-2011 Astros. A team trying to reload when it's clear an entire house cleaning is necessary...though, in this case, it's the football operations side that needs to be cleaned out so that the players get a real chance to win. Or, it's another built in excuse for them to extend O'Brien again. "Well, there wasn't a GM and we really want to give him a chance to work with the new guy."
The Boston Globe believes Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio "wants out" of New England. Reporter Ben Volin seems to mostly be connecting the obvious dots, which is that the Pats had to invoke a clause in Caserio's contract and file tampering charges to prevent him from interviewing with the Texans. Per Volin, "every sign points to Caserio landing with the Texans next offseason." Caserio's Patriots contract runs through next spring's draft. Ever the iconoclast, Bill Belichick appears perfectly content to force Caserio to "play out" his deal.

.@BenVolin on why tampering chargers were dropped: "It's clear that all three parties (NFL, #Patriots and #Texans) did not want to wage war over this." — SportsRadio 610 (@SportsRadio610) June 17, 2019 Volin on #Texans GM situation: "If they lose out on Caserio … it'll work out and they'll find someone else. … But I do think it's lining up for them to make a big run for Caserio after this season." — SportsRadio 610 (@SportsRadio610) June 17, 2019
He looks like Frankenstein. But I don't care if he's a good GM. Give them a fifth and call it a day. If you want him, go get him. This whole act of pussyfooting around is stupid and weak. You fired Gaine to get him, that much is obvious. Get him then.
