Texans can become only the second Houston pro sports team to nab top seed...

    In the history of Houston major pro sports, excluding the AFL Houston Oilers (who won their division/conference four times), only one team has entered the playoffs with the top seed and home field/court advantage, the 1980 Houston Astros, who finished with a league best 93-70 record.

    The Rockets have never had the top seed and the closest they ever came was 1994, their first championship season when they grabbed the 2-seed. The Oilers also were the 2 seed in 1993.

    With minor sports like MLS and the WNBA aside, it should also be noted that in 1983 Phi Slama Jama was a top seed and arguably the overall number one if it existed and the same can be argued in 1968, before the NCAA seeded the tournament.

    assuming we finish the job, the Texans will do in ten years what the Oilers couldn't in 35. must suck to be an oilers fan who can't embrace the texans for whatever reason. i'm looking forward to the Texans making the Oilers a distant memory and sending Bud Adams one big F-you before he croaks.

    If those fans still exist, they followed the franchise to Tennessee and they do have a superbowl appearance. Maybe the Texans can at least match that in February
