Stills is very meh and he's a fa after next year. Tunsil is good but about to get overpaid. The fact that the ol and offense still suck should settle that question

Him, Martin and Scharpring should be an excellent foundation for the next 10 years here. The Texans have never had that sort of O-line stability in their franchise existence.
Pitts - last Texans season 2010 Brown - drafted 2008 Myers - acquired 2008 Briesel - last texans season 2011 Winston - Eric Winston last texans season 2011 So, technically this group was only together from 2008-2010, then replaced Pitts with Wade Smith... and then replaced Winston with Newton and Briesel with Brooks. Yes, I think a foundational line needs to be in place for more than 2-3 years. Closest the Texans had to that was Brown-Myers and the not so great Newton. I'll take Tunsil-Martin-Scharpring-Howard... all of them young, all of them talented.
But back in 2008, the exact same thing you wrote could have been written about that group. We have no idea how long these current foundation guys will be in Houston.
Not really. Brown was the only one who was drafted at that point. And Winston/Briesel... while solid acquisitions, were deemed replaceable in the midst of a SB contending window. Again, the Texans played more years with Brown-Myers-Newton than any of the other combinations you mentioned... and I don't think they have the collective talent/youth you see now. Meanwhile, Tunsil is still a very young 25, Scharpring (23) and Howard (23) are rookies who have already demonstrated the ability to stick and do well, and Martin is only 26 and was recently extended. Its not just the youth, its the overall talent. Tunsil is a franchise LT on the level of Brown. Howard is on track to exceed what Newton/Winston did. Martin is about equivalent to Myers... minus the fact that Myers was only really able to excel in a pure ZBS. Sure, anything can happen in this league year-in/year-out injury wise, and in the age of free agency/salary cap there can be casualties ... but O-lines that start out young together and have the ability to grow with talent are as rare a commodity as a franchise QB. Additionally, you look back at some of the dynastic teams (pre-Patriots) and they all had stable/non-revolving-door O-lines in place.
Pitts in 2002... and was not a franchise/all-pro/pro-bowl type talent (and was a charter member of some of the worst O-lines in NFL history). And he actually only played till 2009, so was really not a part of the core you mentioned above. Winston was part of Kubiak's first draft in 2006. Was a cap casualty in 2012, but also was never a pro-bowl caliber player.
Ahhh, nothing like another reminder of just how bad a job the Texans' did of "Rankin" the offensive linemen in that year's draft. (get it?)(Rankin!)(sigh!)(sniff sniff!) Would love to see "Sharpie" and Howard join L.T. and Martin in forming a long-term quality o-line like we had when Kubes was here though. p.s. For those that don't know/remember we drafted Martinas Rankin 3 spots before Baltimore took Orlando Brown Jr. that year. Many here wanted him. I thought he was well worth a 3rd round chance.
I guess the 31 other teams that passed on him TWICE did a bad job too? Brown dropped because of his piss-poor combine and workouts.
All the tunsil supporters, wasn't he supposed to make the online better. Seems like they are the same online as last years colts game
