Overlanding is self-reliant overland travel to remote destinations where the journey is the principal goal.

I "overland" and full time dwell in my 2018 Ford Transit 350 (EWB HiRoof). I just completed a 2 month trip which included NM, CO, WY, ID, OR, WA, CA and AZ. I did get stuck twice, once in OR and once in CA. I have to be careful how off road I go since it's a big heavy vehicle. A hitch mounted winch is in my future plans. I may also add a dual sport so I can get out into deeper BLM or National forest areas once I've reached the limits of my van.

I'm fully self contained with 24 gallons of water, propane stove, 12v Dometic dual zone fridge/freezer, 200 AH LiFePO4 lithium batteries, 240 W Solar and B2B charging. With a full sized bed I can pull over and take a nap or sleep when ever I want. No set up or breakdown involved.

Here is a photo of my rig from my spring trip to the Keys and back.

we hunt and have a similar setup, but only go for a couple of weeks at a time. I carry a hitch-mounted winch in the front box just in case, have had to pull myself out a couple of times over the years.

the Warne 9.5cti. https://www.warn.com/95-cti-winch-97550 Don't pay attention to the price, you can get them online a lot cheaper. The best compromise between weight, portability, and capacity for our purposes. You can always increase capacity by using snatch blocks etc. Fits in the cargo box easily with other gear. Have used it for pulling tree branches, roots and stumps as well, pretty handy to have.

Overlanding is a combination of off-roading, road trip, and camping.
