It is weird that the storyline is SF defense vs KC offense when KC defense allowed less points this year and SF offense scored more points.

Of course yards allowed are a totally different matter... SF is lightyears ahead of KC in that aspect... which makes the points allowed differential so odd.

I really like the matchup though. The teams are kind of opposites in many ways. KC's offense is explosive, SF's offense is steady. KC's defense is volatile, SF's defense is shrewd. Reid is crafty and a good strategist but a bit sloppy and undisciplined. Shanahan makes good adjustments and manages a game well but can be too risk averse (although not nearly as much as his dad).

    2012 Ravens [49ers] -- Two defensive powerhouses.

2011 Giants -- Deny the Patriots, again.

2009 Saints -- Underrated defense, king of turnovers, Tracy Porter intercepts Peyton to put the game, away.

2008 Steelers -- Dominate the entire game until the dramatic ending.

    2007 Giants -- 18-1, 17-14.

Exceptions-- 2006 Colts, 2010 Packers. Two all Time great QBs. Peyton and Rodgers.

To be fair, the Colts defense played, like an elite one 4x consecutive weeks -- Chiefs, Ravens, Patriots, and Bears.

    I somewhat disagree.

The Panthers and the Rams were definitely flummoxed by the opposing team's defense, but...

'17 Eagles had some innovative playcalling by Pederson. And Foles seemed like a QB of destiny.
'16: Falcons should have won that game. I think it was that the offense became too lax, rather than NE's defense suddenly showing up.
'14: Bad play-calling by Carroll - should have just run the ball in for the win.

Agreed. Most of the time, people cherry-pick one or two highlight defensive play and disregard the excellent offense that all came beforehand, and point to the defensive play as to how "defense wins championships."

I've always been curious about this. The difference seems marginal. Not insignificant, but not steep by any means. Also I think this idea is just a holdover from before the rule changes in the mid 2000s that tightened up pass interference rules and made defensive holding a common foul.

At least it is an excuse for a big feed. Got a feeling Mahomes will light them up.

Generate and repeat some outrageous proclamation/prediction, that if realized you can look forward to reveling in (on the internet).

Tired of sportstalk show saying Italian qb can't win.

Time to break that stereo type and 100 years of being held back by the WASP.

I feel like I've said this for a few years in a row now...but is this the least buzz for a Super Bowl ever? Kobe's death took a ton of sports media coverage that would otherwise be devoted to the big game.

I’d like to remind people of this day in Houston pro football infamy when Donald Trump bought the Houston Gamblers, merged them with the New Jersey Generals, to form the dream team of Jim Kelly and Herschel Walker. A day that now lives in infamy.

Haven't really researched them, but one interesting one that I saw was "Will they show Alex Rodriguez during J-Lo's halftime performance?" Game's on Fox, and he used to work for them but now he's on ESPN, but if I had to I'd still bet on "yes".

Purple Gatorade has surged ahead in the odds (which color will be dumped on the winning coach), the thinking being they'll use it as some sort of Kobe tribute. I'm old-school and will go to my grave favoring lime green.
