They'll vote Trump again. If only to double down on ****ing everyone over in order to help us "Coastal Elites" see how important they are!

I'm pretty sure Trump will win the rural vote comfortably but we are talking about marginal differences having a large effect. Trump won WI by about 7,000 votes. That is very small out of a population of 6 million. Judging from the reaction that Trump's ag secretary got at Farm Fest should be worrisome to the Trump campaign if they can hold onto enough rural voters to win in 2020.

The issue is if Bernie or Warren win we are going to have a recession. We have had a 10 years of growth it's unlikely we continue as is. They will probably be blamed for it. I just hope they get universal healthcare passed in that time.

while Navarro was gaslighting FoxNews, Larry Kudlow was on Meet the Press, hosted by Chuck Todd

White House economic advisor Kudlow or truck an optimistic tone talking about the economy and saying,
    “I sure don’t see a recession.”
He predicted that “the second half of the economy is going to be very good in 2019",
"let's not be afraid of being optimistic”

When he emphasized his optimism again, Chuck Todd brought up what the former cocaine addict had said in a Dec 2007 column

“Okay, you say that, but you actually said that in 2007 right before the second-worst downturn
in US history. This is what you wrote. ‘There’s no recession coming.’ This is in Dec of ‘07.

‘The pessimistas were wrong. It’s not going to happen… The Bush boom is alive and well.
It’s finishing up its sixth consecutive year with more to come.’

The more to come was a massive downturn. I admire your optimism, but the data is pointing in another direction.”

    Signs of recession coming

Bought a gsllon of milk at Wal-Mart two weeks ago for $1.77. Bought a dozen eggs today fo $.80

Seriously these are like commoditie. When commodity prices are falling, there may not be a coming recession but there is almost certainly a market correction coming

tariff is a Trump-induced tax; why not just eliminate / cut the tariff

    a payroll tax cut would only reach those who work;
a tariff cut would reach all consumers, which include many who don't work (such as children, students, retirees)

First trump preparing people for a recession, and now his chief of staff, who obviously can see into the future...

Trump team braces GOP donors for a potential ‘moderate and short’ recession
The White House is weighing cuts to corporate and payroll taxes, among other measures, to cushion the U.S. economy if an election-year recession hits.

It's amazing to me that I, a random chode on the interent with no formal higher education on economics besides some gen eds, knows a reccesion is considered two consecutive quarters of economic decline in terms of GDP and the manager of the world's largest bureaucracy and commander of the world's most powerful military does not know this.

Like how? How have we ended up here?

That is a great point. Many of the tools that would normally be used to combat an economic slowdown have been used and in the case of tax cuts used when they weren't necessary (tax cuts). The only tool that might be used with some effect would be massive governmental spending at a time when we are already seeing the deficit reach trillion dollar levels. Further some of our main creditors such as the PRC might not be as willing to keep on buying US debt with a trade war going on.

How is this not going to kill Trump's re-election probabilities?

The only thing he had going for him to your average joe is "Economy is doing tremendous, you see that GDP? Do you see the stock market? So beautiful folks"

Letting a headline come out of Trump team accepting short/moderate recession for a trade war doesn't sound like he wants to be re-elected.

...he really never wanted to be elected in the first place.;)

...this is the first time the Donald had a job where he actually had to do something other than be the Donald.

...I get the running joke about the emperor not having on any clothes....

...but I think it's safe to say that we've all seen enough of the Donald's bare ass to last a lifetime...

    ...or ten...

I think he'll eventually bend or replace the Fed Chair in order to lower interest rates to zero if he has to in order to prop up the economy till the election. The one issue he cannot control (well he can't really control any of it other than interest rates with a hostile takeover of the fed) is Brexit. Brexit fallout could have a global impact that could drive much of the global markets into chaos & really hit home.

Assuming Brexit fallout doesn't impact us much, I do think that Trump has the stomach to do anything and everything he can to artificially prop up the economy for another year. People still think too much like he's a normal president. He's not... he's dangerous as hell, and if you think he's beyond replacing the fed chair and ordering interest rates to zero, you haven't been paying attention. If you think he won't tell the Suicide Squad producer to start printing money all day every day, you haven't been paying attention.

The fact is there will be a huge reliance of the American people's intelligence on the economy going into the election. They will have to understand that Trump is artificially propping up the stock market just to make the economy look good for the election when he is really doing very lasting damage that will cause a recession that is nearly impossible to combat with the normal tools of the government that Trump has already used. Forgive me if I have very little faith in the American people's intelligence at this point in time.

Unfortunately this looks like it'll be Obama's first term all over again, and if we are lucky enough for Trump to leave office, just wait for the mess that the Democratic administration has to clean up for a desperate grifter Republican yet again.
