Should Dwight Howard be given a proactive blood thinner during his recovery?

I wouldn't think it likely, since prescription blood thinners have serious side effects. He could be given aspirin, though. It has a minor blood thinning effect.

I take that back, apparently aspirin wouldn't really help.

 

I did a few searches, and that's what the results said. Apparently aspirin works on clots in arteries, but not in the veins that can lead to a pulmonary embolism.

 

You realize like 98% of us have absolutely no medical background and cannot and should not comment on what medication a player should take. I hope you are a doctor, nurse, PA, or something -- otherwise this is among the dumbest threads I have ever seen.

It sucks that this is happening and hopefully will prompt a look into all the flying and other mess they are required to put up with; perhaps there is a way to be proactive about preventing this. That said, it's still incredibly uncommon and I'm not worried about Dwight or any other Rockets players getting it. I'm more worried about his crappy knee. I got my degree in the mail for 5 bucks so that's more or less what my opinion is worth since we're apparently discussing our medical credentials.

That is not what we should do for Dwight. I've been in the medical field for numerous years and the best way to prevent this situation is as following:

1. Determine how much bad blood Dwight has.
2. Drain that amount of blood from Dwights' body. Preferably through his knees.
3. Find an athlete who is healthy and get some of his blood
4. Replace Dwight's blood with said athletes'
5. ???
6. Profit

There are different treatments based on so called "rat posion "medicine once an accurate diagnose has been established, however , the complication is serious and neeed a close attention. The bad part for athletics in general , they can't risk another injury if they follow this treatment because if they bleed , it would be a mess to stop it.

None of us are GM's either, but that doesn't stop from thinking we know how to run a team. But of coarse you are correct.
