Let's see, we have two future 2nd rounders and the 2020 1st rounder, I suppose.

On the bright side, I won't have to watch the NBA Draft for about 8 years, because no matter how hard Morey tries, no one, no one, wants to give up picks. Unless you pay out $2,000,000 for a 2nd rounder or something of that sort.

I get really sad when I think Morey is offering future picks.

The optics here look like he setting himself up to not be around when all these picks come due.

2022 1st rounder too, basically two 1sts and two 2nds.

Remember, @ch44 already told us the Rockets were willing to offer a 1st round pick to Detroit for Luke Kennard. So there is one example.

Yup, throw away more picks for some marginal-at-best upgrade.

They also have a 2021 first, just it will be swapped with OKC (either OKC's first, or the Clippers, or the Heat - in short, it will be the worst of those 4, since OKC will just swap the worst one with the Rockets assuming the Rockets pick is better - it might not be, but it's still a 1st round pick). They also have the 2023 pick, though I don't think they can trade that since they already traded 2024 to OKC. Of course, 2024 is top 4 protected... I guess they could theoretically trade 2024 1st round pick only IF it's top 4... but that'd be weird.

Long story short, they do still have draft assets....

We could keep the pick and draft a marginal-at-best upgrade at the back end of the 1st round.

I guess other teams would probably ask for the 2020 and 2022 picks since those have no swap on them, and yeah, they can't trade the 2023 since they already gave up the 2024 one, this pick could be traded only during that specific draft or after.

Sounds like they should draft better then! ;)

Great, go throw away a first for (I don't know...) a Morris twin or Iman Shumpert (@J Sizzle) or whoever...

Yes, but just imagine if the management had not been following the policy of acquiring injured and unwanted players with big contracts attached to picks.

A first should net us someone pretty decent. Kennard would have been a nice upgrade at the 3. I know that he isn't a defensive stopper, but he can ball. If we can't get a defensive upgrade at the wing, I'm all for adding more firepower/shooting/IQ to the team.

Their last first round pick was in 2015. That was Sam Dekker. Admittedly not a home run - I think he is out of the league. That was a 18th pick. They also got Trez that year.

The year before, picking 25th, they picked up Capela.

I'm not opposed to trading picks for better win now players, but they haven't killed it in that regard, seemingly, either.

“The Rockets have prioritized a potential wing player acquisition before the Feb. 6 trade deadline."

Stupidest quote ever. We have the vast majority of our money tied up in 3 guards and a center. What else would we be looking for?
