2018 and 2020 will really show if democracy is good at correcting mistakes or not.

Mueller charges 13 Russian nationals with interfering in 2016 election
'Some defendants, posing as U.S. persons and without revealing their Russian association, communicated with unwitting individuals associated with the Trump Campaign,' the indictment said.

The office of special counsel Robert Mueller on Friday announced indictments against 13 Russian nationals and a trio of Russian entities on charges related to the Kremlin’s efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election.

The dramatic indictment reveals the Russian effort to disrupt the U.S. election was even bolder than previously known. It charges that some Russian nationals entered the U.S. and in some cases paid Americans to assist their alleged political sabotage.

The indictment charges, for instance, that Russians paid an American woman in Florida to dress up as Hillary Clinton in a prison uniform, and paid another American to build a cage large enough to hold her.

Charges in the indictment include conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to commit wire fraud and bank fraud and aggravated identity theft. The indictment alleges that some of the defendants were in communication with President Donald Trump’s campaign, but not that Trump officials knowingly colluded with Russia.

“Some defendants, posing as U.S. persons and without revealing their Russian association, communicated with unwitting individuals associated with the Trump Campaign and with other political activists to seek to coordinate political activities,” the indictment said.

The 37-page charging document also contains allegations that the two of the indicted Russians traveled to the U.S. in 2014, visiting Nevada, California, New Mexico, Colorado, Illinois, Michigan, Louisiana, Texas and New York “to gather intelligence” and that the duo had discussed “evacuation scenarios.”
But the indictment offers what is perhaps the first comprehensive roadmap of exactly how the IRA seems to have carried it its digital meddling, including the group’s organizational chart, staffing, and work flow, with divisions dedicated not only to creating compelling graphics but also mastering search-engine optimization, known in Silicon Valley as “SEO.”

The IRA, the indictment concludes, adopted digitally savvy techniques to shape the American political landscape, from assessing the reach of the social-media groups they might infiltrating, having supervisor’s check workers’ posts for authenticity, and using so-called virtual private networks to make it appear as if they were users logging into the targeted internet sites from within the United States.

What do you think of the indictments? Should we not protect American elections from foreign interference? Do you want your president to do something about it, like maybe at least implement the congressionally supported sanctions against Russia?

Ironic because it's been the right that has been helping Russia openly now. Trump not implementing sanctions and trying to derail an investigation - one that is exposing Russia's efforts and tactics in trying to undermine democracy.

    Mueller is an American Hero.

People will look back at this time as the greatest threat America ever faced I think. We're coming close to becoming a Russia ourselves. And Mueller might be the only man who stands in the way.

Exclusive: Mueller's interest in Kushner grows to include foreign financing efforts

Special counsel Robert Mueller's interest in Jared Kushner has expanded beyond his contacts with Russia and now includes his efforts to secure financing for his company from foreign investors during the presidential transition, according to people familiar with the inquiry.

This is the first indication that Mueller is exploring Kushner's discussions with potential non-Russian foreign investors, including in China.

Mueller's investigators have been asking questions, including during interviews in January and February, about Kushner's conversations during the transition to shore up financing for 666 Fifth Avenue, a Kushner Companies-backed New York City office building reeling from financial troubles, according to people familiar with the special counsel investigation.

One line of questioning from Mueller's team involves discussions Kushner had with Chinese investors during the transition, according to the sources familiar with the inquiry.

A week after Trump's election, Kushner met with the chairman and other executives of Anbang Insurance, the Chinese conglomerate that also owns the Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York, according to The New York Times.

At the time, Kushner and Anbang's chairman, Wu Xiaohui, were close to finishing a deal for the Chinese insurer to invest in the flagship Kushner Companies property, 666 Fifth Avenue. Talks between the two companies collapsed in March, according to the Times.

Mueller's team has also asked about Kushner's dealings with a Qatari investor regarding the same property, according to one of the sources. Kushner and his company were negotiating for financing from a prominent Qatari investor, former prime minister Hamad bin Jassim Al Thani, according to The Intercept. But as with Anbang, these efforts stalled.

Kushner had bought the property in 2007 in a mostly debt deal valued at a record $1.8 billion. The building came under financial pressure during the housing crisis, and in 2011 Vornado Realty Trust stepped in with financing, taking on a 49.5% stake in the building. The office tower shoulders more than $1.4 billion in debt, according to a report Vornado released in March.

Vornado last week disclosed its intention to sell its stake in a regulatory filing, saying, "We do not intend to hold this asset on a long-term basis."
