Interesting spin. The only positive about this is it avoids daily headlines as we get closer to midterms. But prosecution gets another win, which knocks down the witchhunt myth. They also get someone higher and closer to talk about ties with Russia.

What is going to be interesting if trump acknowledges his increased risk and pardons manafort.

I skimmed through the document @MojoMan provided. The conspiracy charge is running a covert lobbying campaign in the US for the pro-Russian Ukrainian party without registering as a foreign agent. Which is well-deserved -- the Obama Admin was hostile to that government and Manafort was essentially trying to undermine our foreign policy. But, unless the roots of Trump's involvement run through Ukraine, I doubt he's implicated directly in Manafort's admission. Cable news is telling me right now that Manafort told the court he will cooperate with the Mueller investigation, so Trump is implicated indirectly in that Manafort will testify about what he knows on Trump.

Could be. From the doc, it looks like Manafort engaged a half-dozen companies in his lobby campaign and was trying to keep their 'fingerprints' off of everything. One firm, I saw, filed as a foreign agent belatedly after quitting the campaign. The others probably broke the law. If so, they should be prosecuted too.

Key part of the deal... that the charges go away upon "agreement of successful cooperation"...

This does exactly nothing to "knock down" the witch hunt assertions. On the contrary. These charges have exactly nothing to do with 1) interference in our elections, 2) collusion with Russia for any reason, or 3) anything at all to do with Donald Trump.

This conclusion will stoke the fires of the "witch hunt" assertions, which I expect President Trump will confirm by tweet shortly, if he has not already.

    Agreed.

Great analysis. I read that document also and your conclusions look correct to me.

I don't think you understand what the witch hunt analogy means.

I know you and the rest of the trump defenders will want to spin it that way. But along with the conviction of yet another trump person who also agreed to talk to Mueller's investigators, you or anyone else don't know what information has been turned over to Mueller.

The Salem witches were burned despite not being witches.

These people, turns out, are actually witches.
