Wayne Graham Out http://www.fox26houston.com/sports/wayne-graham-leaving-rice-after-the-2018-season Even if Graham is 82... not the best way to go out...
While this isn't entirely the right forum...I wonder if it is because it's Berkman trying to get the job. I do not have any knowledge of this at all...just wondering if it's him.
There is a reason I put this on this forum rather than the "other sports" forum for a reason. I'll leave it at that.
It’s been time for Graham to go for a number of years. Not going into contract extensions with an 82 year old coach isn’t surprising. Thank him for his years of service but this isn’t a lifetime gig. Wouldn’t Berkman need to finish his degree first?
I would guarangoddamtee you that Berkman is involved. It is time for Wayne to retire, but this was not the way to go about it. Also, as an aside: UT beat UH yesterday, 9-4, and none of the 9 runs were driven in with a hit. It was a ludicrous smorgasbord of errors, wild pitches, etc....
Rice's results have fallen on rough times, it may be time for him to retire. But he did build that program into what it is now. Would be a really bad look for Berkman if this is true.
I wouldn't say that Berkman has "no" qualifications...he was the part-time assistant coach at a TAPPS high school for a couple of years along with Pettitte.
Unlikely: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Rice_Owls_baseball_seasons Edit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wayne_Graham 2016, 2017 and 2018 are no bueno. Rice should do a real national search for their next baseball coach.
Finally! Per the Rice way, he hung on for about 5 years too long. Berkman as HC would no doubt do wonders for recruiting.
You notice that stopped in 2010, right? Wayne is old and should retire just like UT did with Garrido.
It's weird that Soloman says he has the utmost respect for Berkman as a baseball guy because word has it Berkman was one of the most naturally gifted but lazy ball players in the league. Not exactly the guy I want coaching the next generation.
Berkman did gun for the UT job... http://www.star-telegram.com/sports/college/big-12/university-of-texas/article84237002.html
I may not agree with his viewpoints in RELI 391 and is a contrarian in his political views, but I still think he provides insight in baseball (and poker).
