I’ll be meeting someone from Austin for lunch, I’ll be coming from Houston. Any suggestions on good bbq, burgers, or other casual eats in between? Maybe in La Grange, Brenham, etc. was going to try Snow’s but don’t have the time to wait in line. Thanks!

Which route are you taking? Hwy 290 or I-10 to Hwy 71?

Right? Reba's in Giddings has a tolerable pizza. There's a couple of good places in downtown Chappell Hill

Same here. Hruska's in Ellinger for kolache and Oakridge Smokehouse in Schulenberg for jerky (their smoked peppered pork tenderloin was awesome) and cheese.

Thanks... I was looking at BBQ and saw that spot listed as pretty good. That's a strong option. Thanks. I'll also check out Kenney.

Not sure which route... actually doesn't really matter, either would be fine.

For Truth BBQ - how is the wait/line? Dont really have time to spend 2+ hours in line, but anything shorter that 1hr is fine. Will be meeting around 11AM on a Saturday.

    Thanks, gents for the suggestions!

Long. If you want bbq you might want to pass on Truth if you don't have the time, but I would check the line before making a decision . There is also Nathan's and LJ's both with on a few minutes of Truth.

The Bon Ton has been gone for at least a decade unfortunately.

There's a place nearby called Weikel's where you can get the kolache and baked stuff, but I don't know of any place that does the diner-type food.

Bummer, didn't know that. The Weikel family ran the Bon Ton as well as the bakery, btw.

It's a good stop for gas, bathroom and a snack, but not that great IMO for food. If you want a restaurant, look elsewhere.

Yup. I've have a couple sandwiches from there and they were 90% bun. Hard pass on their food, outside of snacks.

If you are taking I10 don't exit 71 just keep going exit 183 through Luling and go to Lockhart - eat at Kreuz, Blacks or Smitty's - i'm partial to Smitty's.
