The founding fathers knew and prepared for the dangers of a president with too much power. They saw a balance of power between the executive, legislative and judicial branches to act as "checks and balances" to avoid the danger of despotic rule and built protections in the Constitution (one of which, impeachment).

Yet... republicans now appear to increasingly want those checks and balances to be removed... presumably to protect trump from being removed from office and to protect republican hold on power.

Republicans Now Are More Open to the Idea of Expanding Presidential Power

They were freaking out with Obama czars. Complaining about "winners and losers" wrt the fairness of passed laws or regulations generally come from the losers.

Both sides freak out when it's the other in office.

I think it's human nature if you think your side is starting to dwindle or have a not so bright outlook on the future.

I would ultimately like both sides to step down and address the divide but the divide has worked wonders for moneyed interests. Can't really lose rn if you're a lobbyist with a moneybin to pass around

Democrats- Truly just want to resist and not work for the people that elected them to do so. Oh well, we’ll see how that works out for them.

These are the reasons I made the Senate thread about the dispraportionate power the minority has

I could feel some losing their chet in there lol but these dudes are going for dictator type government

It's legit very worrisome which is why it's time the gloves come off

You can't play nice with this

It's time to look at every legal precedent that can be bent just like they do, to wrestle back our country

lol, you forgot what the majority leader said of Obama? Did that make democrats want an imperial Obama - nope.

You people are part of a cult. You view half of American that now support impeachment and removal of trump, for soliciting help from a foreign government in a US election, withholding congressional appointed funds as leverage to extort political help, as resistance.

You people are actively supporting a criminal organization that has infested the gop and their cultish followers.

Republicans no longer believe in the American experiment. That of 1776, 1864, 1918, 1945, 1964, 2008, etc. There is no ideal other than oppression of the other.

This goes from Trump all the way down, with very few exceptions. John McCain doesn't count anymore.

This isn't hyperbole. It's simply the way it is.

We just need to accept it and move on to solution s rather than pretend otherwise. Particularly the media and the cult of centrism that dominates there.

Been saying this for awhile. The turning point was the pivot to pro Putin talking points around 2017 that were driven by a long distance envy of their autocratic all white utopia that most Trump voters look at and think is how society should look. No abortion, all Christians, no sex on tv, no blackish, poisoning journalists... looks great!!

Americans can be really really stupid and self defeating. It’s amazing we’ve lasted this long as a democracy.

Trump has successfully convinced 35-40% of the country that any criticism of him is "enemy of the people" and that only his word at face value with no intellectual curiosity to determine accuracy is more credible than our justice system, career intelligence officials, career law enforcement officials, career diplomats, career journalists etc.

If those numbers pump up to 40-45%, and the rural regions have disproportionate representation where Trump's base mostly precides, I can definitely see actual fascism beginning in America.

Keep in mind the only reason the Senate does zero oversight over the president which is fundamental in keeping the United States a constitutional republic is precisely those 30-35% of brainwashed zombies who believe Trump's word with zero intellectual curiosity preside in those states that have disproportionate representation and therefore that 30-35% have so much power over the Senate and therefore allowing the presidency to go unchecked.

This would be foolish if what you say is true, because then that could have severe repercussions that extend far beyond Trump.

Trump is too much of an idiot to reach beyond his core base, but he has forever changed the system. Unless and until there are new protections and safeguards put in place by a new administration and congress (not likely), we are forever vulnerable and the next Trump with a working brain might just do it. In the meantime, we have around 20% that are simply cult followers.

Catch phrase of the day is cult followers. This is what cult followers do is repeat what they have been programmed to say. It’s uncanny the way the Dems project their own selves unto others.

Did the people elect Trump and Republican congress members to spread Russian and Putin propaganda? Did they elect the GOP to act in the interest of our adversary Russia?

Because that is what they are doing.

Is the "Cult of Trump" better?

Trump's core supporters want him as king. Trump said he can shoot someone in broad daylight and he wouldn't lose his core supporters, and he's completely right. Cult of Trump.

But of course, Trump and his core supporters are the kings of projection and think it's the other way around.

I don't understand. Because you see these dudes want a dictator type government, you think we need to remove some of the mechanisms for balancing power so you can force these dudes to concede to governing the country your way. Do I have that right?

    Not my way.

The way that you know, actually represents the actual people.

If it's enabling what it's supposed to prevent then of what use is it?

It's a ridiculous long shot anyway. Just practicing the Republican way of doing things to see how it's received lol
