By "will not attend" the conference, Treasury Secretary Mnuchin actually meant "WILL ATTEND AND POSE FOR PHOTO OPS" with Sheikh Mohammed Bone Saw

Is it possible for these people to ever be credible about anything? Like anything?

No, it's not because of what I think, it's the fact that he had ties to extremism and by all accounts was an Islamic extremist himself that makes his death less tragic. Is it still wrong that he was killed? Sure, but would we be viewing this differently if they had used a drone to kill him instead?

From what I've seen he was a friend of Erdogan and an enemy of the west....so while they were wrong to kill him, it's not like he was a good person.

To be fair the conference starts in a couple of weeks this pic is not at that conference.

But it's still a bad look.

The Saudis have been killing thousands of Yemenite civilians for years, and it's barely made the news, especially here in Plato's Cave, but kill one Washington Post reporter and everyone wrings their hands and waxes poetic about the sanctity of life and demands sanctions.

The ONLY reason that the Saudis killing a Saudi Islamic extremist is news is because the media think they can use it to go after Trump. Otherwise it would be completely ignored.

It sounds like he doesn't really care about the murder that much, he is just unhappy that they did such a bad job at covering it up. I mean...wtf.

I agree that it is horrible not to talk about the attacks and war on Yemen. That is a war supported by the U.S. It wrong and horrible. It could breed contempt that will lead to more fodder for the terrorist armies.

However, it is different in some aspects than the murder of the journalist. They are casualties of a war, and people have grown to expect those kinds of casualties. I'm not saying that is right to expect and accept those, or wrong, but it is expected. Actually, I'm saying it is wrong because it is. The death of a journalist who was critical of a government by that government raises issues other than just his death and isn't generally accepted. That is especially true when the government lured him into a trap and has been covering it up with lies.

I'm not sure I follow. Its different when a government kills someone who is critical of it and gets caught, rather than carpet bombing thousands of civilians for years for being the wrong religion with billions of dollars worth of weapons bought from a corrupt declining empire that tells its own people it's to "fight terrorism," which is...something that people should expect?

The moral of this story seems to be, "Kill whomever you like, as long as they don't frequent dinner parties of important people in Washington DC."

The war in Yemen is complicated and the information we've gotten is not that great. The morally right answer isn't clear. In circumstances like that, it's easier for a citizenry to get snowed, which is what I think has happened. The Khashoggi murder is morally simple and the Turks have been very forthcoming with information (and/or misinformation). People can feel pretty confident to say that's wrong and ask why the hell we associate with murderers like that. The interesting thing is that this murder has prompted people to take a harder look at Yemen and to start asking for more information there because we're suspicious now that we've been in the wrong.

    now days,
a social media chick, prominent Cleric and sport figure or a business gurus what they have in common is that each could be detained with the accusation of being a MB's sympathetic , it has become absurdly the MiddleEast States sponosred McCarthisim

I had assumed the war in Yemen might not end anytime soon b/c taking over highly populated cities like Sa'na in Fallujah style mean high casualties. Jamal had a different spin on that : If Hoouthi were defeated, Islah party's ( MB affiliate) will take over Yemen, between the two, Houthies seems like the better option, their popularity will remain limited to their circle
