So I guess this puts to bed the conspiracies that the MSM is in the bag for Biden and the Dems. Or does it?
[Premium Post] It's not so much about the gaffes -- it's about a demonstrated erosion of Biden's mental faculties. He's just not mentally sharp anymore. Say what you will about Trump's decency and demeanor, but he's obviously still very mentally sharp. GOOD DAY
This is the mistake progessives continue to make. A huge chunk of Dem Party *does* like him and none of the others. Progressives are a part of the party, but they aren't the majority. It's interesting to see a lot of the state polling - Harris, Warren, and Sanders all pop up and win a state or two, but they are all also very weak in other places. They are all sort of regional/factional candidates that really, really appeal to a part of the party, but have little to no appeal to huge chunks of it. Biden is reasonably well liked across the board and finishes 1st in most states and 2nd in all others - and he has the bonus of appealing to independents that aren't particularly liberal but don't like Trump, which is why he wins all the Biden vs Trump state polls. The only group that doesn't like him is the far-left, but they will vote for him due to their hatred of Trump. I'm concerned about Biden's gaffes, but he seems immune to the effects, similar to Trump. I also don't think he's particularly energizing or creative, but Trump likely provides all the energy in this election - both for and against - and I don't think this is going to be much of a policy election. So while I don't think Biden could win an election against any other normal Republican (and you're right about the "safe" picks historically), I think he might be perfectly suited for a race against Trump. I also think he brings the most coattails to help Dems win Senate races in places like Arizona or Georgia. I think it's interesting to also compare him and Harris. He's running the perfect front-runner race, not being dragged into positions he'll have to defend later, and hoping he can hold up (Warren may prove him wrong). Harris, on the flipside, was a moderate who's shifted hard left to win votes. If she made it a general election, she's going to be stuck with untenable positions and flip-flops, but it seems people already have seen it and see her as disingenuous and have pushed her down a tier. It's hard to not get dragged left/right in primaries, but it's something Trump did really well (just doing his own thing) and Biden seems to be attempting now.
that's why life-long Republican George Conway has called for the 25th Amendment to remove the mentally diminished Trump from office. while his Russian handler, Putin, is diabolically smart, Trump is but an useful idiot
"We": younger voters, many of whom came of age in a post-Iraq, post-2008 world. "Kind": older establishment Democrat who seems unable to recognize the threats posed by climate change, right wing populism, wealth disparity, lack of healthcare and a changing employment world where automation will wreak havoc on millions of Americans. The kind of Democrat who will thank Mitch McConnell for kick him in the nuts all in the name of "civility."
I think most of us millennials/gen Xers are done with the typical moderate democratic party. I would still vote for Biden if he won the nom but if he's out it would give me a sigh of relief. It's time to move away from the wishy washy bullshit democratic party of the Clintons.
None of that legitimately describes Biden. and who is this superman candidate who encompasses everything you want? It's a good thing your kind is in the minority.
Good thing is we're the only thing that's stoping Trump from 4 more years. The democratic party better be careful.
I am a gen Xer and have no problem with a moderate Democrat? the wishy washy bullshit of the Clintons gave us the most recent substantial gun control and a balanced budget. sign me up for more of that.
It also put millions of people of color in jail for weed. Let alone prop up Wall Street to a level just to **** us and our families 401Ks. ***** that ****.
enough of us (POC) didn't show up and it was enough to get Trump elected right? Go look at the numbers again.
Not a fan of the crime bill but it locked up people for crack not weed. So what that have to do with any of current candidates? are they running on enacting another crime bill?
Hey man, I actually kind of like Joe Biden. But I think anyone who still believes that the modern GOP is a good faith actor when it comes to passing legislation is delusional. If a President Biden finds himself having to work with Majority Leader McConnell, we are in for a world of political hurt, debt ceiling standoffs and conservative-friendly, incrementalist legislation that will still be called "socialist" no matter what. If a Democrat is sworn into office in January 2021, the GOP will suddenly start describing the debt they've created during the Trump era as a looming catastrophe and demand cuts to social programs instead of a logical tax increase on the richest people who've gotten their pockets lined during the Trump era. 2009-2017 is the GOP's new, absolutist playbook for dealing with a Democratic executive. One of President Obama's biggest failings was realizing this too late and I worry Biden, a creature of the Senate for decades, thinks that the comity of the past is still possible. It's not. We're still in the head vs. heart phase of primary season. If it's clear to me that Biden will be the nominee - and I do believe he will be if polls continue to hold up for him, especially among the African American community - I will be out there in full-throated support. He has an advantage in the Rust Belt states that matters when it comes to the electoral college and he's a top-tier candidate for me in that regard. I hate the idea of the DNC resembling "Saturn Eating His Son," during this primary when the stakes could not be any higher. It's one of the reasons I don't support Bernie; he isn't a Democrat and I don't understand why they've allowed him to piss inside their tent again while offering no political strategy other than calling for "a revolution." I'm not sold on a candidate who would be 78(!) on his inauguration day as the right leader for this moment in history. But, I'm willing to hear him out and hope that his approach to politics, especially dealing with the Senate, has gotten savvier.
I have no idea what this is supposed to mean. POC will be the reason Biden gets elected, he has much more support than any of the other candidates.
When you're voting for a politician like Biden you take his circle of lobbyists too. Just finished reading a story about how big pharma pushed a bill that got signed by Obama to lower the punishments the DEA could place on Pharma companies in 2006 during the beginnings of the opiod crisis. That's the kind of **** that gets Trump killed today. I'm so over these dudes and for the sake of this country we should be too.
