Huh. Unless there's something else (off field) involved, if I'm the Astros I'm calling his agent 10 minutes ago.
Tampa's "reasoning" is that they have been trying to make a deal and 10 days gives teams a deadline before he hits waivers. Still seems pretty damn stupid to me. The Hosmer deal is much less than was rumored. 8 years 139 sounds like a lot, but it is frontloaded. Basically 5/100 then 3/39 back end. I was never a fan of paying such an inconsistent player, but if he stabilizes that is a very solid deal.
Feel for Padres fans. 8yrs and 144 million is what it takes to lure a fringe top 10, Eric Hosmer. Brings back memories of the Carlos Lee days
I’d rank the NL 1B’ men in this order: Paul Goldschmidt Joey Votto Ryan Zimmerman Cody Bellinger Anthony Rizzo Freddie Freeman Eric Thames Carlos Santana Josh Bell Matt Carpenter t.11th Brandon Belt t. 11th Matt Adams t.11th Eric Hosmer Hosmer has a career type season he’s probably neck and neck with Matt Carpenter, 2017 looked like the twilight of his prime and those numbers compare to Belt and Adams (primarily off the bench). Him being the highest player of the free agent class is a head scratcher. Props to the Brewers and Cubs for getting Cain and Darvish 50 mil cheaper than they’d pay now. Moustakas, Arrieta and JD Martinez gotta be feeling good.
Hosmer is a borderline star player coming off of a huge age 27 season. 100/5 is a great deal for the Padres. I think he’s udeniablyin the top 10 1B in the league. Goldy, Rizzo, Freeman, and Bellinger are clearly better. Hosmer is with Abreu and Santana in the next tier. No sane person thinks Thames, Adams, Zimmerman, or Bell are as good as Hosmer.
Either Dickerson has an off field issue we haven’t heard about, or Tampa has a trade close to the goal line and is using this move to push it past and ensure they’re not on the hook for his full salary. Either way it’s fairly obvious Tampa is under serious fiscal restriction and it really sucks because they have a pretty good team (at least until they gut it). Way too many good, cheap players to justify a total rebuild. I’d love for Houston to acquire Dickerson (assuming he’s healthy and legal).
Based on the return Tampa got for Odorizzi, I don’t expect McHugh to be traded. Based on Dickerson (and Lucroy, Duda, CarGo, Morrison, Lind, Jay, etc.) being on the market, I expect Houston to add a bat.
What type of deal would land Dickerson? Something centered on Fisher seems like a no brained from TAMs perspective.
No, if Dickerson is traded the return will be incredibly light, like a back end Top 30 prospect, like Framber Valdez.
Keep in mind that Dickerson's season numbers are inflated by a great first half. He was terrible in the second half
He was really bad in the 2nd half and the Rays can't afford any players that earn more than the league min
Josh did have that horrible postseason. I wanted to think it was just a regular slump but maybe there is/was something going on in his life? I knew a guy who got hooked on heroin and he got real skinny like that too.
