I'm totally fine with this. He gets to go home. He doesn't go to the trash ass Yankees. The Angel's will be hard pressed to give any more contracts out while paying $40 mil a year to Trout, $36ish to Cole and $29 mil a year to Pujols. That's over $100 mil a year on THREE PLAYERS. They're gonna have to Morey their bench and other positions in the near future. Oh, and he won't be going to the trash ass Yankees so we can all drink some

There is no need for Wheeler to go to the Astros in hopes of becoming a better pitcher so he can get paid when there are those types of offers out there. Other teams are way overspending on him. Cole has to be loving this.

I don’t want to see Cole at any of the teams talking to him. He should go back to Pittsburgh. That’d be satisfying.

I expected a market rebound this year, especially for pitchers.

I knew Wheeler would push close to 100 million and thought 120 million was possible but on a 6 year deal.

The Phillies got the best non star pitcher available but really spent a lot of money to make it happen.

They now have Harper and Wheeler for $450,000,000.

I have to really think there were better ways to spend that much money.

    This.

Cole to the Yankees or Dodgers is worse for the Astros.

Big news. Not really Astros related, but Wilpon looks to be on the outs for NYM. Mets fans can rejoice. And the Astros-Bundy reclamation project was a short-lived notion.

It's a significant overpay... he's riding the velocity wave that Cole is pushing.

He's never thrown 200 innings, has a career ERA of 3.77 and whip of 1.293.

Cole signing with the Yankees would put salt on the wound for me this offseason.

If Heyman breaks the news, is it a Heyman breaker?

Meanwhile the Astros are in talks to sign Rubber Maid as their new trashcan of choice. This offseason blows thus far.

I’m cool with signing a deal with Rubber Maid plus contract extension for Springer. Throw in a tier 3 SP like Jordan Lyles and I’ll be happy. I never thought JL was gonna sign a big name FA like a Wheeler or Grandal.

That Bundy deal looks cheap. Could lower the price for Ray or Boyd, maybe?
Waiting for a shiny new toy to make me happy and excited. Yes I know there's way more to that but it's always fun, Astros seem to be one of the lowest "new-move" teams this time of the year.

I think the Yankees really want to stick it to the Astros after getting knocked out of the playoffs by them the last few years and also the stealing signs issue. This would be the ultimate punch in the face to Houston that NY media and fans would want. If you can't beat them take their best player.

I am sure it would give the yanks a 2 inch throbber for sure.

Have we even had a conversation with Garrett? Or did we give him some token piss ant offer to consider.

Severino and Cole would be pretty stout. Unfortunately so would Otani and Cole.

Dammit. That was my guy. But Nilwaukee gave up Adam Hill and a CBB pick, which I would peg as equivalent to something like Tyler Ivey and Freudis Nova. That’s pretty steep.
