Per MLB Network.... Verlander had 4 previous failed no-hit bids entering the 8th inning -- two of those entered the 9th.

Clemens WOULD be on this list.

    Somewhat surprised Pedro is.

Checked his history too. Dead arm by 25 and dead by 32 due to illness. Spent entire career in the dead ball era.

Also checked Feller. He's one of those multiple missed seasons (during prime) players due to fighting World War. Missed four full years.

I always thought that Old Hoss Radbourn was the better pitcher, just from the eyeball test and all.

Bob Feller was a certified badass.

Manager Preston Gomez cost Don Wilson the opportunity for a third no hitter before the age of 30 when he removed him after 8 innings for a pinch hitter in a game they were losing 2-1. The game was a meaningless September game in a season they finished 81-81.

Triple Crown Winner like 2011 Verlander.

ZERO CYA's despite many great seasons though.

Why? Because the award didn't exist yet. Learned that too.

History/Era equals Perspective... which matters with everything.

Blummer and TK are true baseball pros. They didn't say a word until the final out of the combined no-no, and they've never said anything in any of the multiple games this season where a pitcher was taking no hits into the later innings.

Here's a hell of a juxtaposition for you all.

Edit: This is a juxtaposition between the radio and TV broadcasts. I originally thought it was the Astros and Blue Jays TV broadcasts. It definitely proves the point you guys were talking about earlier about radio vs TV. That's some mighty fine silence from our TV boys.

That's why you love the DH !!

Seriously though... I recently discovered Wilson's skin tone.

Astros have decent history in that regard.

Greg f****** Maddux not having a no-hitter in his career is the big one for me. That's crazy.

No, but apparently she does do athletes, according to a quick Google search.

Yeah somewhat, just consider Maddux was more of a contact guy than overpowering.

Perhaps a reason his playoff production regressed.

    Except vs the Astros.. smh

So glad that Toro hit that out. Nail biter...whether or not our offense would carry Verlander to the win.

Yes...he and Curt Blefary were probably the second pair of integrated roommates in baseball.

He has almost 200 innings of postseason baseball and a 3.27 era in it. Dude was a beast. Top 5 of all time? Definitely top 10.

2.81 ERA and 1.19 WHIP with the Braves. 2.09 and .905 in his 5 WS starts.

Yeah, Maddux might be Top 5, but he was the only Braves pitcher who regressed in the postseason.

Smoltz' overpowering game was the most successful of their Big 3.
