Chicago in their loss to Houston (86-118) gave up 70 (yes, that's right seventy) uncontested shots. (An uncontested shot is defined by Second Spectrum as a shot when no one is within an arm's reach.) Houston went 13-23 from the field on contested shots. The numbers get worse the more you look at the mismatch. . . Houston was 14-18 at the rim (77 percent). But rewind the numbers one more time... Chicago's pro basketball team only contested 23 of the 93 looks that the Rockets took. They should watch the amateurs over at Loyola, IL. Houston did have 10 turnovers that translated into 18 points, so yes, Chicago did hurry the ball up and scored off live ball turnovers. Yes, they did run up and down the court, but giving up seventy uncontested shots? Seventy? On the flip side, we'd be remiss if we didn't note that Houston was putting up little defensive effort in that game, but they still managed to coax the Bulls into 17 of 54 shooting on their uncontested looks. Fifty-four is a high number for the Rockets, but when you have a 40-point lead... This is what tanking looks like.
Nice research! On another note, there's no way this can be good for an organization...draft lottery be d***ed, this is horrible for player development and group mentality. The 76ers had some lucky breaks go their way, they're the exception to the rule. And how do these tanking teams bring in revenue through these several year periods of horrendous play? Why do fans buy tickets anymore?
Their two big stars Embiid and Simmons didn't really play during most of the tank. They were hurt or held out.
NBA will give the first pick to a big market team like the Bulls. Don't tell me the Lottery isn't rigged. They do it behind closed doors. lol
I can't tell if the Bulls, Suns, Grizzlies (sans Gasol and Conley), or Hawks have the least amount of talent. I still can't get over the play where five Bulls players went for the dame rebound and ended up giving the ball to the other team.
The bulls have markkanen, dunn, and lavine. If they get a legit star next to them they can probably do ok in the east.
The top 4 will be some combination of Dallas, Phoenix, Chicago, and Atlanta, book it. The top 5 may be interchangeable, I don't think Ayton has the same defensive potential that most people do, he reminds me of KAT at Kentucky, bad defensive instincts but can simply out athlete and out long most college players.
Would make sense, but it at least (in theory) would prevent teams from putting out a complete garbage team to always be first. It should really be bottom 5
Seems like a bad theory. I think I felt that way going in too. You have only about 3-4 teams in contention for worst record, but 8-9 in contention for a top 3 worst records.
