Lebron has now won 2 Player of the Month awards in a row, not coincidentally in season where the Lakers are #1 seed, Clippers significant again and Kobe has passed away. All eyes are on LA. So while it is obvious they gifted at least one of them to Lebron for whatever reason, pick one of the following: Kobe's passing, argument of supposedly having overlooked Lebron in MVP voting - hardly the case, he just hasn't been great compared to others in 6-7 years and coasted by choice - not wanting to give it to Westbrook or Harden again, keeping LA in the spotlight.

So now, Giannis is clearly ahead of everybody else given how this thing has shaken out over last few years, i.e. best player on team with best record or insane stats. Since nobody has the insane stats, it's basically already a wrap that Giannis will be given the MVP. Personally, I don't think anyone's really deserving this year or at least not head and shoulders above the rest to the point of not including at least 3 or 4 more into the conversation. If Harden had won it last year, sure then by all means give it to the kid, but back-to-back MVPs in seasons where he likely won't make the Finals seems absurd.

Anyway, back to Lebron. Given the whole story about LA's rivalry, media feeling Lebron should have more MVP trophies and now Kobe's death is it a serious consideration or just the media trying to create a story where there is none? I'm really started to think it's the former and would fit a nice little narrative of a Laker winning it, Lebron winning it to honour Kobe and in celebration of their best record in the West and the man's career.

Lebron is a legit mvp candidate whether you like him or not. a lot of people doubted him this year, including this board. even people saying the lakers wouldn't make the playoffs, he can't stay healthy etc...

He's just had to overcome so much!
New team, new coach, Kobe's death!
Bucks are 5-1 without Giannis! Lakers stink when LeBron leaves the court!
    He's 35!
    He's in his 17th year!
    MVP!

I think I covered most of the media talking points I've heard the last few days.

So, if he has trouble in the rescheduled game with the Clippers..."It's understandable, because this is the Kobe game from 2 months ago."

Giannis is winning the MVP. This is just media stirring stuff up to create conversations/eyeballs. Because of it Giannis won't be unanimous - which regardless of "skill" level, he should be, especially when you bear in mind how dominant he is defensively as well as offensively.

A legit candidate absolutely. Legit second place, not first. Not sure how anyone could vote Lebron first over Giannis, who does more offensively, does way more defensively, and has a better and all-time great team record.

why is it that the best player on the best team in the western conference is being questioned for being in mvp consideration

there is no narrative or story and this is not the media pushing for anything

this is simply a player who deserves to be in consideration
there are two players head and shoulders above the rest: giannis and lebron

i don't like giannis either but the bucks have the best record in the league at 53-9 and he's averaging 30, 14, and 6, how is he not head and shoulders above the rest

the lakers have the best record in the west at 47-13 and lebron is averaging 25, 8, and 11 (leading the league in assists)

also, how are you so sure the bucks won't make the finals

saying giannis shouldn't win back to back MVPs purely because harden didn't doesn't seem like a strong argument

So, the best player on the best Western Conference team trailing the best overall record by roughly 4-5 games in a much tougher conference of opponents, overato ll.

Averaging 25, 8, and 11 at age 35 in year 17, on a non-playoff team in 2019-20 with 12+wins and counting without any playoff appearances, since 2013. It's debatable, if this team could reach playoffs without said player.

But, yes, there is an agenda going on, here.

I hope he wins, simply because of what Giannis said about Harden. Yet, if they don't reach the Finals, this year. The 2x MVP would be standing with 0 NBA Finals appearances.

Lakers had LeBron last year, who played 55 games. That team went 37-45.

Are you really going to discount the fact that the Lakers have Anthony Davis this year? People are saying the Bucks play in a weaker conference, which is true, but the Bucks' second banana is Middleton, who's probably not a top 25 player.

LeBron and AD are 2 top 5 players on the same team.

AD top 5 player? nah, based on what? half a season of realizing you can't lead a team to more wins than not so you gotta go to Lebron.

before lebron went down the lakers were in pretty good position as a playoff team at 20-14. and they still had over a month and half to go before the AS break. he missed 27 games and the latter 7 were just keeping lebron out because the lakers had no reason to play.

If you're playing with another MVP caliber player, you shouldn't be considered for the MVP. But that's just me.

Better LeBron than Yannis. Plus the fact that Bron is playing at such an insane level aged 35 is pretty mind boggling...

I don't have a problem with Lebron being MVP. His team falls apart without him while the Bucks win without Giannis.

Give it to LeBron. So, when the Lakers don't make it to the Finals, the season won't be a total waste for them. Much like when James Harden won the MVP.

But... he had to overcome a new coach AND a new teammate!

I don't have any input in the actual debate, just laughed out loud at somebody saying Lebron had to 'overcome' getting AD as a teammate above (apologies if being sarcastic)
