I been thinking about you I been meaning to tell you Sit down with me let's have a drink Back when the war ended your great grandfather handwrote Letters of apology to all of those Families of men who crewed that U-boat Haunted 'til his death by that long night off the coast Your other great-granddad came back from Arnhem Transformed into a damaged and violent man Never spoke of the slaughter he witnessed firsthand This is the world I brought you into man All remorse, no rebel A shell of my former shell Sit down with me let's have a drink What have we here? The dreaded failed imagineer? His private dismay on public display Son, do not be alarmed by your old man's tears "Hey, old man, it's ok. Every dog has his day." Sit down with me let's have a drink I been thinking about you I been meaning to tell you Sit down with me let's have a drink
At some turning point in history, some ****face recognized That knowledge tends to democratize, cultures and societies So the only thing to do Was monopolize and confine it to Priests, clerics and elites the rest resigned to serve 'Cause if the rabble heard the truth, they'd organize against The power, privilege and wealth for the few and no one else And did it occur to you that it's exactly the same today? So if our schools won't teach us We'll teach ourselves to analyze and understand The systems of thought-control And share it with each other Never swayed by brass rings or by penalties I'll promise you, you promise me Not to sell each other out to murderers, to thieves Who've manufactured our delusion That you and me participate Meaningfully in the process Of running our own lives Yeah, you can vote however the **** you want But power still calls all the shots And believe it or not Even if democracy broke loose They'll just make the economy scream Until we vote responsibly
Annie is the shizzbolic & hasn't let me down yet. Thx for reminding me it came out today. Looking forward to seeing her at Day for Night along with this lovely lady from Phantogram.
Random Trivia: I never put much thought into it before, but seeing 25 or 6 to 4 in writing made me wonder where that came from. Turns out it is the time of day. Either 25 to 4 or 26 to 4. This was written by Robert Lamm, who is a keyboard player and singer for Chicago. It's about trying to write a song, with the title referring to the time of day: either 3:35 a.m. (25 to 4) or 3:34 a.m. (26 to 4). Lamm explained on The Chris Isaak Hour: "I was living with a bunch of hippies up above Sunset Strip. One of the advantages of this particular house was that it was in the Hollywood Hills and I could look out over the city late at night. I wanted to try to describe the process of writing the song that I was writing. So, 'waiting for the break of day, searching for something to say, flashing lights against the sky' - there was a neon sign across the city. That song came from the fact that it was 25 or 6 to 4 a.m. in the morning when I looked at my watch - I was looking for a line to finish the chorus.
For some reason I have recently pulled out some old Helmet albums. Love the time signatures on this track.
