Part of me is so excited to go there. I have a job lined up, but I have no idea where I’m going to live. I am German from my heritage, but I don’t speak that language. I’ve been studying the language for a year or so, so that doesn’t bother me whatsoever. My main concern is healthcare and peace of mind. Any suggestions?

I would say it’s probably a little bit of both, but thank you for your response. Right now I’m in charge of a warehouse of an automobile accessory outfit called Omac here in Houston, with the main outfit being in Germany.

All I can say is: congrats!!! There's a lot of great things about the US...........and a lot of crappy things too. I imagine that's true for every place on earth. But Germany would be an AWESOME place to live........perhaps for the next few years; perhaps for the rest of your life. Just enjoy yourself. And beer gardens.

Every time I post on this site nowadays, it gives me an Apple-winner app, and quite frankly I’m sick of it

Wow, that's great! I'm excited for you!

I lived in Stuttgart for a year. Loved it. My understanding is the Stuttgart area (southwest/Baden-Württemberg) is quite different. I could definitely tell who in the company was from there versus other areas of Germany, once I knew what to look for. Don't know much about rest of Germany, though.

Being so centrally located, Germans love to travel throughout Europe, short weekend trips is common. Take advantage of that!

One word of advice, the paperwork to get your Work Visa ... start it now by asking your company what to expect. And when you get there, have a German resident help you, and try to get one to go to the govt offices with you to submit them. There is a specific order of paperwork you need to follow. As I recall, getting a bank account and lease is part of the process that comes first.

Congrats. I'm sure the healthcare and overall peace of mind of living in Germany will be just fine, if not likely an upgrade from your current situation. Biggest difference will likely be culture, language, missing family & friends.

Also, the weather! Say goodbye to the ridiculously hot Houston summers/mild winters, and hello to a real winter with spectacular summers.
