Jays have this game won, but if this were the Astros up 7-0 in the Playoffs against Texas there is a 99% chance that the Rangers would come back and beat us 8-7.
Porcello vs. Bauer.... talk about your it took long enough to reach your potential matchup. This could end the world right here.
And, Miller pitches two innings. Struck out 4. I thought pitchers could not adapt to situations they weren't used to?
And, Allen threw his first 5 out save of the year. So, 3 pitchers were put into situations they weren't used in during the year and all were successful. Games are (and should be) managed differently in playoff situations than the regular season.
I think it was important for Francona to do it. Having Miller in there for 3 innings really helped them from preventing the Red Sox to score more runs. This is sometimes the difference between winning games and losing. A manager with lots of postseason experience.
And it will cost them the series. 80 pitches combined. Both go 40 for the first time this entire season. Totally overthrowing. What a waste. Managers get dumb in the playoffs. It's proven every time. This one goes nuts in game 1. Cleveland does not deserve this. The only thing that may save them is if the Boston manager starts doing the same thing which is more than likely, as they all get stupid this time of year, especially these analytic teams. The Cleveland pen is about to take a beating. They best hope the starters can deal.
You can't manage for the next game in the playoffs especially in a one or five game series. Managers and players need to do what they can to win a winnable game. I suspect Oriole fans and players are thrilled that Britton is getting all that extra rest. Play to win each game and let the chips fall where they may the next game.
If the Jays close this one out they go into Sundays game with Sanchez on the mound @ Rogers Center. Not looking good for the Rangers
