Altuve's walkoff is rightfully being celebrated but I still feel that Brantley's double play is the play of the game. Walk off homeruns are always dramatic but the amount of difficulty on the unlikelihood of it working the way it did makes it special. Hicks and Judge both presumed that it would drop for a hit and most of the times that sort of hit would. If Brantley can't make that catch and it gets away from him Judge easily makes it to third and very possibly scores. To first make that catch is ridiculously difficult and then to have the awareness and athleticism to throw it to first well ahead of Judge is even more amazing. We'll see a lot of home runs but a web gem like this is a rarity. It's a testament to the focus and doing things right in every part of the game for Brantley.
If Brantley doesn't make that catch, Yankees have 2nd and 3rd maybe with 1 out, zero runs scored. If Reddick doesn't make that catch, Yankees have 1 run scored if he knocks it down, 2 runs scored and Gardner on 3B (or home) with 1 out if he doesn't. You tell me which play was more important. Gimme a ****ing break.
It’s not just how important the play was it’s about how difficult and rare it is to see a play like that.
Our defense was definitely the most impressive aspect of our game for Game 6 and its not even close. The pitching was also fairly good for a bullpen game vs. a high powered offense. It was impressive to see our bullpen step up in crunch time, but also props to Verlander for sticking out so many innings the night before to give them the necessary rest and unpredictability.
There’s no denying that Reddick made a very difficult and important play or that Altuve’s homer wasn’t the most important play of the game. That shouldn’t diminish how rare and extraordinary Brantley’s play was and admire it for what it is.
Both. But if Brantley misses that ball Judge scores easily. He was all but standing at 2nd already and that ball roles to the wall possibly. Torres running hard gets at leat 3rd. Why are you so Reddick defensive dude.
No he don't. Ball doesn't roll to the wall, it was a popup. Other players were backing up the play. Judge was flatfooted at 2B. I'm really, really, really ****ing glad they caught them both, but let's be honest.

I was gonna say something inspiring about how many countless moments added up to last night ending in one of best moments of Astros history, but let's not lose focus of the thing at hand and just acknowledge one of the best parts about it: Buck and Smoltz were falling over themselves for what felt like hours when Judge made a well-ranging catch and doubled off Bregman in the first game. So, it's particularly nice and fitting that Brantley made a much harder catch and doubled off Judge last night.
Ummm no one was behind Brantly. Bregman was trying to track it. That ball rolls for a while and Judge scores easy.
Bregman is standing right next to Brantley with his back to the IF when he catches the ball, Judge is standing with one foot on 2B, watch the damn replay, it was a straight popup. Popups don't roll very far. But whatever. Hell of a play.
that ball was coming straight down. It might have had 10 feet of roll on it and that’s if it was deflected in any way. Great play regardless, but not a score saving catch the way Reddick’s was. His was railing towards the right field corner with Springer nowhere close to back it up with the amount of topspin on that ball.
It was a great damn play.. also the face plant catch by Reddick was awesome and the Altuve and Correa DP was amazing. Correa has a cannon of a arm. I was in shock to see that live.
Not a bad argument, but Brantley's play was just more spectacular, i guess that's why it stands out. Anyway, everyone contributed at some point or another. It was a total team series win !
