All lottery picks that the Rockets traded for while they were still on their rookie contract. Unless I missed someone, those are the only lottery picks Morey got besides Harden.

Morey had some success with lesser known players (Dragic, Lowry, Courtney Lee) but overall most never amounted to much.

Thanks for putting this together! In retrospect, one could argue that Jordan Hill worked out in that he was a rotation player for us during his Rockets tenure. But he never ended up being the steal we initially hoped he might be. And it didn't help that the expected value of the pick considerations from that McGrady trade never materialized either.

Marquese Chriss will be a great addition for the Rockets and the system. Look at Capela's highlights and then just envision Chriss in his stead. Seamless.

Capela's Job: Pick and roll for the lob, rebound, block shots, and improve perimeter defense. Added bonus would be to improve FT%.

Chriss' Job: Pick and roll for the lob, rebound, block shots, and get used to a switch heavy defense. Added bonus would be to improve 3 point% to allow him to play PF minutes for corner 3s. Also pick and pop from the 3.

I can't stop him from growing up, or out, or down, or whatever. But it's looking like Stromile all over again here.

Only not. Stromile was brought in with expectation that he would be our starting Power Forward and a big contributor. There is very little expectation for Chriss right now.

Within our system, where we can maximize his skill and minimize his limitations, I remain cautiously optimistic he can be a contributor off the bench.

The kid played in all 82 games his rookie season (starting 75) averaging 20+ minutes per game with 9 points and 5 rebounds per game and played in 72 games in his second season with similar averages.

He has some playing time under his belt, and bone-headed or not, I'll take those numbers add in a dose of Hakeem, Lucas, D'Antoni, and Bzdelik and see if something clicks.

Stromile Swift was also used at power forward at the time, and athletic forwards like that need to be used at center otherwise they end up clogging the paint. Chriss is similar, he should be quite capable if used properly.

    Cp3/harden/melo/Chriss/Capela

Would love to see this lineup if Chriss realizes his potential . Two lob threats and cp3/harden at the same time . Melo to attack on closeouts in ways Ariza never could . Chriss and capela are mobile enough to hold down the paint. Could run a diversion PnR with harden and capela and then give cp3 the ball and capela screens for Chriss for the surprise lob . Or vice versa. Versatility and diversifying our attack. Wrinkles to the Pick your poison offense and enough defense ..

It may sound ambitious, but if Chriss figures it out he may put us over the top against GS. Imagine capela and chriss, two 6’10 beasts locking up the paint together at center and pf! Weve seen capela out play boogie already too.

The thing that makes it work is if Chriss can hit a average rate of open threes he can space the floor- they have to respect his shot .if his man sags off or closes out late ,then Chriss could possibly put the ball on the floor and is long enough to execute a one dribble move then dunk on fools out of position. I’m sure Morey has thought of this scenario as a remote possibility . More likely , as many have said IF Chriss shows no sign of professionalism they’ll cut him and save some money no biggie. We are betting that cp3 and hardens #swag and influence, overall team chemistry will motivate him. it’s a good bet because Chriss has the tools-we will give him the blueprint for success accelerate his maturity for the game + also life in general .then Morey will sign him to below market value and we have sewn up our front court for years.amazing . I believe !!!!

I’m guessing they view him more as a Tarik black replacement. 3rd guy to spell nene.

Although perhaps the double threat could spark MDA’s offensive mind, find a way to run both of them through a pick and roll. Use one pick to set up the roll. Or like, run a regular PnR and hit Capela with the lob. When the defense adjusts, have a play where Capela starts the pick but kinda plays InTo the defenses adjustments, Chriss cuts from another angle for an easy bucket. Then again, they don’t really need Chriss specifically for that.

Marquese Chriss wanted to play football first so the type of mindset he has IMO is "in your face." He wants to be an enforcer.

1st started playing competitive basketball as a freshman in high school.

    This video is entertaining. :D

    For a more detailed views.

    This is embarrassing.

No congested lanes to worry about with the Rockets at least. SMDH! Well he has plenty of time this year to practice dunking.

I wonder if Chriss will have beef with Draymond this year? Playoffs! We can use Tucker and Chriss as enforcers.

He can be hot headed but the Rockets are a veteran championship level team. He should fall in line. That fire can be used if directed properly.

Rockets staff need to redirect that energy into smart hard fouls. If Capela imitates Mutombo's style, then Chriss should aim to imulate, idk Shawn Kemp and OMG ex-Rocket Stromile Swift! Thats a good fit for this system as a backup center. Put on some muscle (not too much to stay mobile) and aggressively dunk and block shots.

Knight seems to be our emergency 3rd PG and possible Eric Gordon replacement if Gordon + filler gets traded per the Jimmy Butler rumors.

Chriss is our emergency Capela replacement. That insurance is needed.

Do not trade Marquese Chriss! We need athletic depth at the center position. We can't depend on Tyson Chandler getting bought out or Brandan Wright again.

It's tough to make an analogy with GSW. The thing with GS is that they have so much talent on the floor - KD, Steph, Klay, Iggy, Draymond, etc. that a player with major deficiencies like Javale doesnt get exposed a whole lot. David West would have been out of the NBA long ago were it not for GS. Look back at our series vs. them - Javale only got minutes late in games when the outcomes were determined. He didnt get any 'real' minutes, and they tightened their bench up a lot. Most teams dont compete with GS at that level so they get away with throwing in an array of average players with multiple MVP-caliber talent around them, and they look good.

The last video shows why Chriss can be a very valuable player for us in the playoffs. D-raymond hates him. So he can come in and throw a few hard fouls on D-raymond to take him out of the game.
