Sources: Soaz and Febiven to join Misfits

    Nov. 20, 2018
    ESPN

Misfits will sign former Fnatic top laner Paul "sOAZ" Boyer and are working to facilitate a buyout with Clutch Gaming for mid laner Fabian "Febiven" Diepstraten, sources close to both parties told ESPN.

The moves will be the first transactions Misfits will make ahead of the 2019 season, which begins in January. The team will now have to find a jungler and a support -- with them reportedly having interest in re-signing Nubar "Maxlore" Sarafian, who has competed with the team since May 2017. Their support, Mihael "Mikyx" Mehle, is reportedly in talks with G2 Esports, as reported by ESPN on Tuesday.

The moves comes as nearly all of the contracts for Misfits starting roster expired on Monday. The sole remaining starter left under contract is AD carry Steven "Hans Sama" Liv, who the team signed to a three-year extension in June. Former Misfits top laner, Barney "Alphari" Morris, signed to Origen, who entered the League of Legends European Championship under new ownership RFRSH Entertainment, on Tuesday.

Misfits finished fourth in the European League of Legends Championship Series in September, falling to Team Vitality in the third place match. They then failed to make it to the 2018 World Championship after losing to Splyce in the regional qualifier. The team -- which kept Alphari, Maxlore and Hans Sama after its success in 2017 -- failed to meet its expectations after adding Chres "Sencux" Laursen and Mikyx.

Throughout 2018, Febiven competed abroad in North America on Clutch Gaming, the upstart League of Legends team founded by the Houston Rockets after a successful franchise application to the North American League Championship Series. Clutch finished fourth in their inaugural split, but ended the summer split at ninth. Clutch is reportedly looking to move Febiven -- whose contract lasts until the end of the 2019 season -- to a team back home in Europe after his request to do so.

The move will mark a departure of sOAZ from Fnatic, a team he has competed on during two different tenures and performed highly at multiple international competitions. In 2018, Fnatic added rookie top laner Gabriël "Bwipo" Rau to back up sOAZ -- creating a competitive environment for play time and reported tension between sOAZ, Bwipo and Fnatic.

Sources: Huni to sign with Clutch Gaming
    ESPN
    Nov. 23, 2018
    Jacob Wolf

Clutch Gaming will sign former Echo Fox top laner Heo "Huni" Seung-hoon ahead of the 2019 season, sources close to the team and player told ESPN.

Huni joins a team that has several desired roster pieces on its starting and backup lineups, creating a flexible free agency period.

Clutch currently have two AD carries, American Apollo "Apollo" Price and South Korean Chae "Piglet" Gwang-jin, who are both contracted through 2019 and residents per the Riot Games interregional movement policy. The team also has two of the highest-valued North American supports, Nickolas "Hakuho" Surgent and Philippe "Vulcan" Laflamme. On Tuesday, Clutch completed a transfer agreement to move Fabian "Febiven" Diepstraten to Misfits. Clutch Gaming declined to comment.

The Huni deal comes after a process that saw both Clutch Gaming and Echo Fox -- now his former team -- bid for the player, sources said. Huni will replace top laner Colin "Solo" Earnest, who remains contracted with Clutch through the end of 2019.

Since his relocation to Europe, and then North America, Huni, 20, has become one of the best top laners competing in the western League of Legends. In his debut professional season with Fnatic in 2015, Huni and jungler Kim "Reignover" Yeu-jin led that team to two consecutive first-place finishes in the European League of Legends Championship Series. Fnatic then took third-fourth at the 2015 League of Legends World Championship.

In late 2015, Huni and Reignover struck a deal to relocate to North America and compete on Immortals. The following season ended with disappointment for the team, as they failed to qualify for the 2016 League of Legends World Championship. Huni then departed on his own and looked for opportunities in his home country of South Korea.

He landed on SK Telecom T1, the three-time world champions led by Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok, often considered the best player to ever compete in League of Legends. In his one-season stint with SK Telecom, Huni won one League Champions Korea title and took second at the 2017 League of Legends World Championship.

He then returned to North America, signing with Echo Fox in late November 2017. Throughout the 2018 season, Echo Fox had a tumultuous journey, finishing third in the North American League Championship Series spring slit. Over the summer, the team made abrupt roster changes -- cutting mid laner Kim "Fenix" Jae-hun, AD carry Johnny "Altec" Ru and support Adrian "Adrian" Ma just hours before the end of the mid-split signing period. Echo Fox took fifth-sixth in the summer and failed to qualify for the 2018 League of Legends World Championship.

Now it's time to spend heavy money on new jungler and mid laner too.

Echo Fox LoL Signs Apollo, Hakuho, & Solo In Major Trade
    Twin Galaxies
    November 23, 2018 10:54 PM (PT)
    Zac Cameron

    [...]

New information has come out about the future of Echo Fox in the NA LCS, with sources familiar with the situation revealing that three players from Clutch Gaming will be signing onto the team for the future season. Top laner Colin "Solo" Earnest, AD Carry Apollo "Apollo" Price, and Support Nickolas "Hakuho" Surgent will all be joining the roster.

    [...]

With these three players joining the roster, Echo Fox will be able to adapt to new situations on the fly, with more available players meaning more options for new Head Coach Kim "SSONG" Sang-soo.

While it’s unclear at this time why Clutch Gaming is willing to part with these three players all at once, sources indicate that they might be making salary space for potential new players. Former Echo Fox Top laner Heo "Huni" Seung-hoon was already confirmed to be heading to Clutch and it appears former Echo Fox Mid laner Tanner "Damonte" Damonte may be joining him. Both players were previously under free agency.

With these major moves underway, we'll have updates this article as any new information that comes in.

umm not possible. We have two import slots taken up with lira and huni. Apparently the new lineup is huni, lira, damonte, piglet and vulcan. In theory we strengthen our communication with the three koreans, but idk how vulcan and damonte actually are.

Yeah I'm aware of the number of import slots that is allowed. IMHO, LirA can be really good in one of the coaching positions for our team with his professional experience playing LoL for years. This year I'd like to see an aggressive jungler on CG. But I know it's not gonna happen and my wish will turn out to be just a fairy tale.
