The worst contracts. Hes pulling a Kapernick on a smaller scale and different platform. QBs make too much money, why not pay a RB who ,along with the OL, saves their ass continually.

How?It’s a business. Not high school football.

I’m sure pro players understand. If not then they are being selfish!

The NFL doesn't have crap contracts - their union just negotiated different benefits like salary floors and larger overall revenue.

Besides, the NFL has a hard cap. Any one player getting paid more generally comes out of the pocket of another player.

Bell's teammates were openly pissed and considered it a betrayal. He would have been paid more than all 5 OL combined and about 50% more than the 2nd highest paid RB in the league and that wasn't enough for him to play.

Obviously not. Who is anyone to say what pay increase you deserve for above average work performance. Regardless of anyone else situation.

Good for him for seeing it through the end. Respect.

Oh he can certainly play only for what he wants. But his teammates voiced their opinions on it pretty openly. The "I'm sure pro players understand" was not remotely true here.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports impending free agent Le'Veon Bell is seeking $17 million annually. It's $3 million higher than Todd Gurley's average salary. Bell also wants $45 million guaranteed. It's a lot of money for a 27-year-old coming off a holdout at a devalued position, but Bell is going to get overpaid this offseason. With the Steelers expected to transition tag Bell, teams may be forced to frontload Bell's contract.

SNY's Ralph Vacchiano reports Le'Veon Bell wants to sign with the Colts this offseason. "He has his eyes on the Colts, no doubt about that," a source told Vacchiano. "He sees Andrew Luck and that offense and all that cap room. He wants to go someplace he can win right away." The Jets are expected to make a run at Bell, but the interest may not be mutual. With Marlon Mack and Nyheim Hines both cost controlled, we don't see the Colts as a good fit for Bell, but there's going to be no shortage of suitors this offseason. Bell is targeting $17 million annually.

The Steelers could be 11-2-1 right now if it weren’t for self inflicted wounds, poor coaching and general choking.

They haven’t missed him much. He’s an elite back (with obvious baggage), but the problems the Steelers are having have little to do with their RB situation. I doubt that will change moving forward.

If he goes to the Colts: bad news for the Texans.

Nobody is scared of running backs. What a weird thing to desire, to play for the Colts. Weird. Anyways, he just wants $$$.

ALL HE CARES ABOUT IS MONEY. Colts have the most cap space. PLEASE let the Colts sign him. Let them waste money on him. Makes them have less to fill other needs.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports "all indications" are the Steelers plan to use the transition tag on free agent Le'Veon Bell.
Yikes. The first day the Steelers can apply the tag is next Tuesday. It is an almost stunning level of pettiness, but within the Steelers' rights via the collective bargaining agreement. Per reporter Gerry Dulac, under no circumstance would the Steelers consider actually keeping Bell. The scheme would also require Bell signing the tag. The Steelers' endgame would be: Getting Bell to sign the tag, matching an offer sheet from another team, and then trading Bell for compensation. It promises to be an acrimonious end to an exceedingly bitter feud.

The voters need to get a new players union. Whatever they have doesn't work.

Well, they have the offense together (though they could use more at WR) and they put together a decent defense led by a rookie. I wouldn't "hope" for them to get Bell, personally. They fall assbackwards into enough "luck".

No way their GM overpays for a FA.
I am a fan of Bell. I think it's likelier he ends up in KC or even GB(New regime that might be more amenable to paying top dollar for FA) and definitely not NYJ (Because Adam Gase isn't a fan of RB's with a mind of their own).
I think the Colts GM Ballard is too smart to go after Bell and would just go after another RB in the draft.

Yeah, no. I mean even if one doesn't want to feel bad for NFL players one can still acknowledge their contracts are the crappiest out of the big four leagues(in terms of security). In terms of pay I'd say the NHL is the worst of the big four when it comes to paying star players well. Overall, the NFL is the worst.

Contracts are far more complex than paying star players or guaranteed money. The NFL has - by far - the biggest rosters, meaning the money has to be divided amongst far more players.

Contracts also reflect things like player movement (NFL players get true free agency long before MLB, for example), long-term health care/pensions, etc. They also have the signing bonus system which allows players to get guaranteed money for years they are cut and can make money for another team as well, potentially doubling up on pay.

For everything the NFL players give up in guaranteed contracts, they've often gotten something else in return that's not quite so obvious. And by having the hardcap/parity system, they've helped the NFL grow dramatically, allowing their salary caps to rise alongside that.

EDIT: On guaranteed contracts, there's a hard salary cap. Meaning if a player had a guaranteed contract and was getting money he doesn't deserve, it just means some other more deserving player cannot get paid that money. The NFL's pay system is just more of a meritocracy than other leagues. That's not really good or bad - it's just different.

Do the math the NFL makes much more money than the other two leagues. If you divide the revenue generated per player vs what they are getting paid it is the worst among the leagues. Their insurance is worse than the MLB and the NBA. Their pension is terrible. They have no safety as they can get cut or hurt at any time and only a small portion of their contract is guaranteed.

Really the parity in the NFL is overrated. It is pretty much the patriots every year and before that it was either brady of manning every year. I guess the NFC was a little more open, but the MLB has more parity than the NFL. MLB rating aren't going up. People like the violence of the NFL. Its the gladiator sport. Unfortunately that leaves most players in terrible situations and the NFL tells them to go **** themselves.
