Kyle Tucker: Could he be our everyday LF in 2018?

Discussion in 'Houston Astros' started by Shark44, Feb 25, 2018.

?

Is Kyle Tucker ready to be our everyday LF?

  1. No, kid needs some more time in the minors to work on a few things.

  2. Yes, potential is oozing from him, let's get this party started!

  3. Maybe, its still early in Spring Training, let's not hyperventilate over the kind just yet.

    That's just ridiculous.

You lose your investment that way ... kill his immediate family instead. Gives him something to think about...

Well, we've got so many guys under-performing that at this point why the hell not right? lol.

He truly can't be much worse than Correa or Reddick at this point.

Time to see if he's got something else in the tank.

    Tucker

    Starting lineup vs the Indians:
    1. Springer CF

Here's hoping young Kyle figures out major league pitching and helps us go on a tear these last 14 games.

Unpopular opinion, but start Marwin over Correa. 4 lefty/switch hitters, Cleveland's rotation is all righty, and they're really good ones. Keep Correa for late inning defensive sub. Sorry, but this is why I've been critical of our lineup being righty-heavy at times.

I'm really surprised by this, not shocked yet, but certainly surprised. This may just be about giving him a chance to spend some time with the big league club, not an actual expectation of helping us on the field.

If we think he can help us in a pennant chase, he should have been on the roster already.

I bet if the Astros clinch before the last series of the season, he'll get some starts.

Sure. I have to imagine that after thy clinch they rotate guys thru a day or two of rest. He probably plays almost every day for springer/Reddick or DH against Toronto or Baltimore if those games mean nothing which will hopefully be the case.

I’m already changing my mind. They might want to get Jake and Straw some burn as they will both be on the 25 man roster in the playoffs and could probably use a little play before then.

Hinch acknowledged Sunday that Tucker would not play much, unless the Astros clinch a playoff berth or division title before the regular season ends.

“Calling Tucker up now is more a reward for the season he’s had,” Hinch said. “He’s been incredible in the minor leagues, we want him to continue to get a little bit of experience. If it’s in short spurts, great, if I can get him some at-bats in the next couple weeks that’s great for us as a team and great for us as a player.”

    Straw is another matter:

"Speed is the most obvious thing that he adds," Astros manager AJ Hinch said of Straw, who is ranked by MLB Pipeline as the Astros' No. 14 prospect. "When you get into the type of race we're in, playoff-caliber baseball, any small advantage would be a big advantage.

"He's an elite baserunner. His instincts are good, he's a good outfielder. We're not going to ask a ton out him, playing-wise. As I told him, he's in a very interesting situation, because every time he goes into the game in the foreseeable future, it's going to be either as a tying run, go-ahead run or tack-on run.

    https://www.mlb.com/astros/news/myles-straw-call-up-to-astros-for-basestealing/c-294750020

"We're asking him to take his best skill set, which is basestealing, and apply it to the Major League level."

Why would they both be on the roster? Fisher would not have been on the roster last year if Jake had been available.

Exactly. Sorry Fisher fans, but Fisher is overrated and his days as an Astro are probably numbered. Yes, he did the job in Game 5, but it could have easily been a different speedster instead. He's already accomplished his mission, and that was provide speed in the 2017 WS. Trade chip this offseason, we have a surplus (Springer, Kemp, Reddick, Jake, Tucker, Straw, Alvarez, Ferguson, plus even more in AA and below).
