The Mavs are considered a 6-9 seed by most, while the Kings are considered bottom feeders by most. However, I think a full season with a top tier coach they will be marginally better while the Mavs will be marginally worse making these two teams fairly similar. The reason for the comparisons are: 1.) Would like to know if Rondo would function better under a different coach. 2.) Both teams have some of their best players at SF and C position. 3.) Both teams seem to be collecting whatever big name talent available and seeing if it sticks. 4.) Both teams have owners that are willing to spend and take risks to win now with mediocre talent.
If the Kings would've drafted Mudiay, they'd definitely beat out the Mavs. It all depends on WCS's development and if they can get a PF before the season starts.
Let's see who is the pg of the Mavs before we make such polls. If it's only Barrea and Rondo doesn't implode along with Boogie then very well can be Kings.
I don't care how crappy the Mavs are this season, but there's no way the Kings are going to better than the Mavs. Too much off the court stuff and they'll be lucky if DMC makes an effort on D.
Starting lineups so far Rondo Collison Gay Cousins Koufos vs Barrea Wes with achilles Parsons with microfracture Dirk with old age Dj
Sacramento was only hindered by an incompetent owner last year. Assuming he gets his head out of his ass, Sacramento has a decent roster. Dallas, well they have Deandre and that's pretty much it.
According to Mavs fans on their pathetic forums and FB page they think the Mavs are championship contenders.
Mavs clearly have the better front office & owner. But roster potential maybe slight edge to Kings due to injuries & age for the Mavs.
I'm putting some faith in their HC w 1000+ career wins in putting it together for them. I think WCS will contribute early defensively in their front court as well.
What if it is Jeremy Lin or anyone else attainable by them? There really doesn't seem like there is anyone significant available to them that would make a difference from JJ.
Evidently Lin plans to sign with the Mavs...which will help them. Unlike Dwight , Deandre is willing to play the PnR game and that is what Lin is best at...so, he should help them. If Matthews and Parsons are healthy and 100% then that team is a playoff team for sure, and, assuming they can get another good bench player, could surprise in the playoffs. As for Sacramento...they are a very interesting team now with an experienced coach and Rondo and Bellinelli added in to the mix; and also their rookie PF looks pretty good, and who may start. That team has a lot of talent. Let's see if Carl can put it all together and make it translate to wins; because over the past few years Sacramento has been like the black hole of the NBA.
Maybe watch out for the Clippers long term... Chris Palmer @ChrisPalmerNBA Jul 5 Clippers will make a massive push for Kevin Durant next year. Mutual interest.
Mavs, but the gap between the 2 teams is closer than most think...which is not a good sign for the Mavs.
For all of those saying Dallas, what position player would you rather have from Dallas vs Sac? I'd rather have DMC over DJ, a healthy Rudy over recovering CP, and Rondo over Lin. DMC>>>DJ Rudy=CP if healthy Rondo>JJ/Lin whoever else
The Mavs have one starter recovering from an achilles rupture, another from offseason knee surgery (possibly microfracture), an ancient Dirk and currently no real PG. The Kings have a great coach who doesn't get along with the star and could be fired, and a combination of Rondo and Cousins in the locker room. That is one heck of a battle there, but it is not a battle for a playoff spot in the west.
