That....is one incredibly hellacious scar. Wow.

1- people who are “asking” about the 37 million are stupid, ignorant or both. i Guess I shouldn’t be shocked by it anymore but it’s still really appalling to me how vocal people can be about being sooo short sighted.

2- I’m not even on football with this. I’m just happy the dude can walk.

3- as far as football goes, I think he still has some magic left in him...but it won’t be what we came to see for the first 5 years. This year, he wasstill affecting the run and just starting to get in on pass rush when he went down. If he still feels like playing, there will obviously need to be a focus on conditioning, maybe dropping a few lbs but I think he has plenty more to give.

Newton, not so much. I read somewhere only 9 players have had his injury and only 1 ever came back.

here it is, this was posted in october 26th, 2017: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...watt-reveals-plans-for-hurricane-harvey-funds

J.J. Watt reveals plans for Hurricane Harvey funds

    Published: Oct. 26, 2017 at 04:23 p.m.

After initially setting a goal to raise $200,000 in Hurricane Harvey relief, J.J. Watt ended up raising more than $37 million from more than 200,000 donors.
On Thursday, the Houston Texans linebacker announced plans as to how the funds will be distributed to those in need. A total of $31.5 million will be distributed among four partners -- Americares, Feeding America, SBP and Save the Children -- over the next 18-24 months. The funds will be used to rebuild homes, restore child-care centers, provide food and address health needs of those affected most by Hurricane Harvey in Houston and the surrounding areas.

The remaining $7 million will be set aside for distribution in 2018 as the Justin J. Watt Foundation continues to assess and analyze the evolving relief efforts.

"While I understand the total recovery from Hurricane Harvey could require upwards of $200 billion, and this $37 million will not be able to help every single person as I so badly wish it could, I have made it my mission to ensure this money makes as large of an impact as possible," Watt said in a statement.

Also if you want to hear it from his voice he posted a video in twitter explaining it:

Wow. That really puts it into perspective.

These days players are overcoming all odds but the odds are obviously against him. Just haven't seen anything from him on any social media

If I'm the Texans I might ask JJ to restructure and become a 3rd down specialist. Get away from the grind of 1st and 2nd down and allow him to continue his HOF career.

According to sportrac his guaranteed dollars are up after this season. They’ve probably known just asked him to kinda keep it under wraps until next year. Or hell, maybe he comes back and can serve as RG. Unlikely though.

With Martincoming into his own....if someone like Davenport can develop, or maybe Fuller at G...and assuming, against all hope the Texans finally move on from bloated contracts and below average roster fillers like XSF...Allen...Joseph...Cushing....plus brown is out...there will be cash to take a free agent lineman. And maybe another draft pick can surprise? The ol could turn it around quickly, or at least become a respectable unit for Watson.

He seems to be walking well - no hitch or limp which seems impressive after seeing that scar.

The Texans are very loyal to their guys. Good and bad. The way Quessenberry looked this preseason was 10x worse than anything we've seen on the field this year. I mean it's absolutely an amazing thing what he accomplished by stepping back on the field but how long do you keep it going? With that being said, if Derek wants to play and physically can I'm sure we'll give him every chance to. Does seem like an extreme longshot though.

Agreed here. Will add that regardless of Newton’s progress this offseason they need to operate under the assumption that he’s done. They need to have a plan for a new starter at RT and if newton comes back to contribute anything treat it as found money. He even showed the ability to slide in at guard, perhaps a necessary move at this point but same idea applies. Treat his contribution as found money.

O'Brien on Derek Newton: "Nobody has worked harder... He's here more than the coaches... He's working his tail off to get back."

J.J. Watt said he's on track for training camp said his leg feels good and making ton of progress expects to start running soon

J.J. Watt on 2018: "I'm excited. I'm very excited. 2017 was a very unfortunate year, lot of injuries, lot of things going wrong, but very excited about the future. It's good to have a quarterback. Looking forward to having a great year."

The only possible silver lining is that his back got an extra year to heal... it/he did not look right at all for the games he played this year.

Less worried about the leg... bones heal.

The type of bone injury he had is very significant. Of course there are varying degrees of severity for this type of injury, but this isn't a simple break by any means.

Per all credible sources (actual orthopedic doctors), this wasn't the more complicated type. Blood supply in this area tenuous, which can lead to prolonged healing times... he apparently hasn't had any of these.

blood supply is definitely great for healing but it's also possible that the bone won't heal back the same as before, meaning that plateau may not be same. I don't recall see any specific reports of how severe his injury actually was so maybe it wasn't that bad, but I think it will be a mini-miracle if he comes back near 100% from this. But i might just be jaded after hearing an orthopedic surgeon with 30+ years of experience in sports injuries and who specialized in knees say "even if he bagged groceries for a living, he will never be the same". Granted he didn't have all the facts but it certainly doesn't make one think you can shrug off this injury so easily. But if anyone can make a return, it would be JJ. let's hope.

Aware of some in the know with more of the facts.

Biggest issue for JJ remains the back... which remains a worst-case scenario, IMO.... he wasn't the same (at all) this year, so the only hope is that more time off helps the back moreso than it already has.
