Just like his incompetent mentor McHale, it's all empty words and no thoughtful analysis on the situation. Not a mention on strategic adjustments. "Gotta play with more intensity", "Rise to the occasion" is just a sophisticated way of saying "Play Harder, Clap Clap". It's time to bring in a real tactician who knows a damn thing about the game of basketball; no more of these moronic types who are nothing more than glorified cheerleaders.
You're right, but not based on this interview. The only thing coaches will say to the media is stock answers like this. Why on earth would JBB tell the media tactical changes to the game plan he he is making?
It would be utterly silly for him to give away any strategic changes in a pregame interview two days before the game people. He's clearly struggling with the job but to jump on him for just spewing some cliches in this interview is just overboard. As for some changes, I wouldn't mind JB going full Kerr and giving Livingston the Tony Allen treatment. Wouldn't mind putting James on him and just letting him roam the passing lanes without fear of leaving a 3 point shooter open. Would allow for the Rockets to trap Klay on screens and pindowns and not be totally ruined if he finds the roller before the trap.
You don't need to announce out loud what adjustment you're going to make, but addressing what went wrong from a tactical and strategic point of view is totally OK, and in fact what most brilliant coaches such as Rick Carlisle or Brad Stevens do all the time. If everything your coach says in front of the microphone is cliche expressions about needing more effort, that should tell you something about his depth of knowledge of the game.
instead of film sessions on our defensive rotations and their offensive plays, it's "PLAY HARDER!!!"... yea, like that will do anything.
JBB should put more focus on defense. If your defense sucks as usual, prepare for a blowout loss. Please never play Terry/Brewer over 20 minutes. Their defense is joke.
I agree, he was thrust into a horrible situation, and expecting any great insights are unrealistic (not that GSW needs to learn what we are doing to beat us TBH). Always liked JBB as a person. That said... just don't care. JBB has been a horrible coach, and the team has been a horrible team. Just want this season to be over... and changes to happen. Big changes, and lots of them. Its not just a lack of talent (and honestly, this team suffers from a huge talent deficit... that's on Morey), but has been ill-prepared to play (that's on coaching) and most offensively, they suffer from a lack of effort many games. And that has lost my interest and support. Won't even bother watching tonight. Team needs to earn back my interest and support.
They need to maintain focus and intensity for 48 minutes and not let up just bc Draymond or Clay hit 2 or 3 threes in a row. Rockets play off of momentum way too much. They jump up and down and have all this energy when things go their way but when they don't, they just stop trying, stop getting back on defense and stop playing the fundamentals. It's just a weak mentality. Last year's rockets team had the same issue, it just took a mircale to come back and meltdown from the clippers but that was fools gold. In no way should we have ever thought the team we had last year was a few steps away from a championship.
So JB is saying one thing and the players are doing something else... Hmm... So they didn't listen to McHale and now they are not listening to JB.. So it sounds like the coach is nothing more but a figure head and the real coach is Morey.. (This is sounding more and more like the Cowboys). T_Man
I have a feeling, the only reason why Terry is on the team is because the Mavs didn't have a spot for him at trade deadline.
They decided not to continue with good defense when Beverly went out. That's on the whatever it is for lack of motivation.
