Well deserved to Russ, and the reason Russ wanted it so bad is definitely in some ways a retaliation to that snake Cupcake

Again it makes absolutely no sense to have either Westbrook 1st or Leonard 1st and Harden anywhere but 2nd.

If your choice is Westbrook than winning means absolutely nothing in your criteria and Harden stomps everyone else in stats. If you vote Leonard 1st than winning was your first priority in which case Westbrook can not be your 2nd choice. Harden has arguably better numbers and a lot more wins.

It's clear there are a whole lot of disingenuous voters who were looking for any reason to not give this award to Harden. When the Westbrook momentum picked up steam with game winning shots against lottery teams, the group think mentality really came together and this thing was over.

It's a shame to see the kind of people that are given votes for this thing and to see the MVP turn in to a pure stats driven award. Bad precedent. Until it isn't when they need to change the criteria for the next player ESPN decides to put weight behind.

What we just saw today should end the Westbrook/Harden MVP debate with an exclamation mark.

A superstar player in KD decided to leave Westbrook.
A superstar player in CP3 decided to JOIN Harden.

    https://www.si.com/nba/2017/07/31/nba-awards-james-harden-russell-westbrook-mvp-criteria-daryl-morey

You could argue for eliminating the awards altogether. I don’t really see a good way to do it that doesn’t have major issues. I like clean answers. If there’s not going to be a set criteria and there’s going to be issues with how it’s structured, for me it might be better to not have it.”

“We thought James was the MVP but there were a bunch of very good, deserving candidates,” Morey continued, before making an apparent reference to Westbrook’s triple-double achievement. “I didn’t like how a different MVP criteria was used this year, compared to the last 55 years, to fit more of a marketing slogan. People thought a different criteria for selecting the MVP this year was the way to go.”

“Given that the criteria seems to be shifting away from winning, I would guess that [adding Paul] probably doesn’t help anyone’s chances on our team,” Morey acknowledged. “That said, I don’t think anybody really cares [going forward]. James definitely cared and I think we all cared [about the 2017 MVP]. But we’ve moved on since the award isn’t focused on winning any more. Let’s just win and not worry about it.”

It's true, but again the media attention with Morey..just comes across as a sore loser.

Morey is right. The media was inconsistent in their criteria. First year in recent history that winning wasn't a factor. Next year's winner will likely have an entirely new set of criteria that the media determines to be "most valuable". It's not a bad thing for Morey to think that's a bad thing.

I like it. acknowledge the fact that we all wanted Harden to win then makes sure you give the middle finger to the league.

I hope next season they actively say they don't care anymore.

    what a joke.

Don't really care. Harden was definitely not playing like an MVP in the 2nd half of the season, and add to that he's pathetic closing game performance against the Spurs, I think it would have been more embarrassing had he won the award. In a way Harden gained a little bit more sympathy than he should have because he lost to WB.

I hope Rockets fans follow Morey's example and stop givzing a damn about individual awards going forward. Way too much CF bandwidth was consumed obsessing over it last year. Just win!

It should have gone to Steph Curry or maybe Kawhi if winning is the sole criterion, not Harden.
