Trump probably got the call from Putin. We are more likely to see Trump Tower Tehran than more sanctions or war.

Yep. Even Trump isn’t that stupid. The Iranians know this too and just want to make him seem as weak as they can to force him into a bad deal. They know the weaker he is politically, the more desperate he’ll be. Same with Xi and Kim Jung. The Iranians forcing oil prices to jump in the US shows how tuned in they are to Trumps fears of a recession before the election. They also did this just days after Trump fired Bolton who would have been the most hawkish on a military response.
I don't know how many Americans have the stomach to fight a war based on oil refineries being attacked in Saudi Arabia of all places. How many American are going to stomach a war based on defending Saudi property, a nation many people was partially responsible for 9/11? How are you going to spin that to make make the public excited enough to ramp up enlistment numbers? It was easy to find bodies to send to Afghanistan and Iraq because of 9/11. Not much of an emotional outrage for Saudi oil fields being attacked.
To be fair, the issue with Trump's comment on the right seems to be that he doesn't seem to understand what no pre-conditions means. So you can see why he might be confused by all of this.
Threatening war and looking tough is good for ratings. Dead civilians, $200 oil and a worldwide recession aren't. Trump is all about the ratings.
