Until last week, I received around 1 spam call per week. Now I'm getting 5-6/day. Anyone else?

Same here. Its really annoying. some seem to begin with the first 6 digits of my phone number too. I just don't pick up now if I don't recognize the number.

Yes, the past 4-5 months I've gotten 5x more spam calls than before. I'll get like 4-5 spam calls back to back to back within a 5min period and its extremely annoying.

I've even gotten calls from my own cell number...

Appears some new technique has been unleashed. I get calls that match the first six digits of my number now daily. Several times a day. I no longer answer my cell phone for anyone not in my contacts.

The same 6 digits has been going on for awhile now.

New for me the last month are ones in Chinese.

The key is to not say anything that can be recorded as an acknowledgement.
My understanding is that they make their money by phone-bill cramming and saying you agreed to the charges using your voice as "evidence".

Yep, out of no where I've been spammed by calls. I get a damn annoying Chinese one....I've noticed that the spams typically have the first 6 of my phone number in them.

Get ****ed who ever the Chinese spammer is.

I don't know how many of those I've blocked on my iPhone but it's a lot. But, I think they are spoofing those numbers, i.e. fake. Once, I got a call showing my own phone number. And, I always get those IRS bs calls with threatening voice mails.

I have been ahead of these spam calls for a while...or so I thought.
I had ATT until january and I used ATT call protect (they block spam at the network level). It's powered by Hiya.

Then I switched to Verizon and started using the Hiya app. They do have an option to block neighborhood spam calls (aka..the first 6 of your phone).
But even with the app blocking most of the spam, I am still getting a lot more the last 2-3 weeks.

    Suggestions for everyone:
If you have ATT, download att call protect and turn it on.
If you have Tmobile, login and turn on their spam protection stuff. I forgot the exact.

If you have any of the carriers, I would still download the Hiya app and set all spam to go to voicemail.

I still have a 512 number from my Austin years and just didn't see a reason to change it. Anyone now that would call me from Austin would be in my contacts. I get at least a couple calls a day from 512 numbers. All are spam.

Do not pick up these calls.
The neighborhood spam is a trick to making you think your friend is calling you...or a local business.

I second Hiya. Been using them for a while now. If not on AT&T, you can just dl the Hiya app itself on the App Store or Google Play.

Spoofing (spam numbers with the same prefix and first three digits) is hardly new, but the app @Sajan mentioned blocks those from the get-go.

IRS just called me from Georgia a few hours ago and another a-hole from New York called in the morning because my Windows laptop has a virus. I have a MAC by the way.

Funny thing is the IRS scammers called a few years back from India and i started to talk to him in Urdu/Hindi and the guy basically broke down on the phone to me. He was like, " we really don't have any other opportunity. We have to do this to make a living. Blah blah blah." Felt kind of sad for the crook.
And another time the IRS scammer called from India and i told him all the cuss words i knew in Urdu/Hindi and we were just cussing at each other for a good 10-15 min. I hung up on him multiple times and he kept calling me back. Felt good to troll a troller.

I've been doing this for 2 years.

Haven't noticed much of an uptick recently.

This has been happening for a long time. Now they're calling my work and asking to speak to me, but fortunately the calls get screened by my receptionist and never get to me.
