He doesn’t look like Cole anymore and he’s got pinstripes on. It’ll be incredibly easy to root against him.

Do I have to? Technically I'm a New York Yankee now.

Would be nice if they force the Yankees to pay off his remaining $26 million while also giving them the huge luxory tax hit since they are way over with Cole. Being able to cut him really helped giving them some room for Cole.

I don't like booing per say, but I am glad to see on full display how NY, or any big market really, isn't all about glamour and money. Those crowds turn on you when the going isn't winning, particularly if your perceived as a reason why your losing.

He will probably need to relearn how to pitch without the sticky stuff. Maybe he is 20-25 mil year pitcher instead of 36. Astros dodged a bullet.

He was indeed an "ok" pitcher before 2017. One that was made available in a trade 2 years before free agency because he was good... but wasn't wicked good... and thus the Pirates didn't wan to pay the 10 million + he would be due for in arbitration for "just ok".

He's probably going to level out at somewhere between where he was in Pittsburgh and where he was in Houston.... and that was likely always going to be the case given how amazing he was in Houston (likely was always going to be his 2 best career years, his peak). However he's now on a 9 year contract and while he was always going to be overpaid, you would expect him to at least deliver 2-3 all-star/cy young contending years till normal age related regression (in line with what Greinke is giving the Astros now, which is still very good).

He has good timing though, cashed out before getting caught. Every team needs to wait out this year and possibly next to see what they have or don't have after everything normalizes. Gonna be interesting to watch.

I love that Cole is outright robbing the Yankees.

If teams are dumb enough to keep handing out 9-10 year deals, they deserve what happens to them.

Cole will be fine. He still had a wicked fast ball. It just takes time to get used to things. It's like when the MLB introduced the balls. The pitchers just had to get used to them. He still may never be the pitcher he was in his last season here, but he will be pretty damn good.

That being said, I still want to destroy him every time we see him. Just like I wish Charlie the best except when we face him. I still wish we had Charlie and McHugh back here. Would love to have McHugh in our pen.

Given how things seem to be playing out, the Cole deal would have still been a bad contract at 6 or 8 years as well.
