Since Texas BBQ has it's own thread, I think fired chicken deserves it's own thread. Fried chicken to me is like sex. Even when it's bad, it's still pretty good. So what is your favorite fried chicken type and places? I live in Austin and love spicy chicken and chicken wings. Here are some of my favorites

    • T22- Spicy Nashville chicken where you can pick your spice level. It doesn't agree with my stomach but it's my favorite based on taste. Their sides and pies are also very good.
    • Almost any KFC(Korean Fried Chicken) joint- I love Korean fried chicken. The double frying allows it to stay crispy even smothered in sauce. My current goto place is College Roadhouse and Charm BBQ chicken
    • Gus's - Memphis chicken - it's spicy which is good enough for me

    Popular place I don't like much -
Lucy's - Very boring fried chicken.

    Chains in order
Bonchon - Biggest KFC chain. There all over the place, so I consider them a chain
Pluckers - They are all over Texas and still pretty good for a chicken wing place
Popeyes - Spicy but the pieces are small compared to others
Churches - Good, Cheap, and big pieces of chicken

I had the new Chicken sandwich at Popeyes last week. Sorry Chick-fil-A, but they owned you. I will miss the times I enjoyed you in my belly. It's just me, not you.

Just so juicy and crunchy with so much more flavor.

in Houston BBQ Inn on cross timbers has been hand battering and frying up chicken since 1942.

I like Lucy's in Austin, wish it was a little spicier and a little less salty. Gus' is pretty good as well but I've only had the Austin location.

The fried chicken at Mother's in New Orleans is legit.

Yard Bird in the Venetian in Las Vegas is super legit.

My backyard. Some "regular" for the old people, children, and patients recovering from surgery; some spicy no sauce, some spicy with spicy sauce.

eta: I can't help with Houston, but I'm assuming T22 is Tumble22? You're the 2nd person today who has mentioned that to me. Now I *have* to try it next time I'm in town.

Is Mother's the place that has the killer po boys? I had the drippings po boy there like 20 years ago and I still remember it.

the fried chicken at culinary drop out is pretty good too but more homestyle than spicy. Prob on par with Max Wine dive
Mexcian Chicken nuggets at the fairmont hotel.
I think Gus is really overrated but not bad.

Yes, because it's my least favorite fried chicken. I'll still eat it though.

T22 is good for Nashville hot chicken. Their spiciest flavor is fairly mild compared to the originals in Nashville. Portions are good and food is cheap.
I like Gus's, but don't like to go to downtown often. Parking is difficult and too many homeless now.

Agree to disagree. All this is subjective so I dont mind differing opinions but Id sure as hell rather have KFC original over popeyes greasy chicken or churchs' mega steroided chicken.

But like you said, its all still good.

I forgot about hiwings. Their chicken is legit. I'm glad they expanded their menu a little bit. When they opened, they had only like 5 things on the menu.

I'd forgotten that Mother's calls that sammich you were talking about a debris ("the roast beef that fall into the pan au juice while roasting in the oven") po-boy. Perfect name.

If I lived in New Orleans I'd weigh 300 lbs.

20 years ago, it was called a drippings po boy if I'm not mistaken. Maybe that is what they described it. It was ridiculously good.

Pretty sure the last time I went there was a couple of years after they opened the aquarium right down the street sometime in the late 90's. I just saw the "debris sammich" when I was looking at the menu, since you made me remember that place and google it.
