Overall the game turned out about like I expected. Some glimmer of hope on a team that was going in the wrong direction under Applewhite. At least UH is still in there fighting and looks like they will at least beat the spread last I saw was at 23.5 points.
I have a hard time feeling particularly good or bad about that game. The bad is it looked like the big kids v. the small kids all night. Even when we looked better. But we did cover against the number 4 team in the nation, at their house. Holgorsen coached to win, which I appreciate. King missed several throws. Rusty? Tight? Threw a TD right on the money. Running game had some sucess, but seems to me O line couldn't open up the middle. Don't know if we settled down or OU took their foot off the pedal. I guess it is the Bill Parcells line 'In the end you are what your record says you are."
I'm happy with the first performance under Dana. Even though OU called off the dogs late, we have plenty to look forward to THIS year. Much less after a few years of DH's recruiting. After all these years, UH is poised to resume our rightful place on the gridiron (permanently), and he's the Coog who should be at the helm. BTW..This OU team that we faced tonight..They will probably be playing for the National Title.
They won't play a better team in the trenches than they did today. Or a more athletic back 7. Respect.
The program is headed in the right direction. If Applewhite were still here, what would the score have been?
We are looking at a lot of shootout type games so we better get used to it. I think we are ok as far as dline talent to compete in the AAC, but the back end is not good right now. I hope they get better, but we need talent back there asap. There is a reason they have taken so many defensive transfers is because the defensive recruiting has been **** for 3yrs and the numbers on the roster are totally out of wack. I think King and DH finally got on the same page after a rough start I expect the offense to play much better against Wazzau in 2 weeks.
The last game he coached was 14-70 loss vs Army so... Would've been 3-140 with Hurts rushing for 999 yards.
Call me crazy, but I actually thought the OL played fairly well under the circumstances. The defense was atrocious. No sugarcoating that bunch. All in all, a decent performance.
I accept that, and Buck had a equally strong take. I'm a big fan, an eternal optimist and I want to believe. My problem is that the Coogs just didn't pass the sniff test in game one. Bring on Prairie View and lets try it again.
#48, the one where you quoted me! But that is not why i liked it. And we will see. OU was our hardest opponent and PV is our easiest. Guess the real measuring stick is Washington. Or even conference.
I wanted UH to beat OU Thought Jalen Hurts interview after the game was pathetic. UH was overmatched and he was acting all bitter. You can just tell that he's just sour that Tua beat him out and that he won't be drafted as a QB in the NFL.
