definitely a surprise but tbh I don't think holgorsen could careless about who at this point, especially with how the season has played out thus far. really tough schedule to start in less than 3 weeks time. he's had reservations of the roster from the start. we'll see what happens
Holgorsen said he expects King to be UH’s starter next season. Holgorsen said more UH players could redshirt this season. Said several times Coogs aren’t ready to compete for a championship right now. 1-3 record obviously played a part. Is Holgorsen afraid that King will still leave UH? “Yeah.” Holgorsen said NCAA is probably upset with him because this wasn’t intent of new redshirt rule. Sophomore Clayton Tune will start at quarterback for Houston on Saturday at North Texas, coach Dana Holgorsen said Tuesday
Tanking in college football seems like it shouldn't be a thing but maybe it is now? A coach in the 1st year of a big $$$ contract probably has incentive to set his floor low since he'll never get fired after one season, then his improvement in year 2 gives him leverage to negotiate an extension (or seek a new job elsewhere) Also pay the players, for ****s sake.
Oklahoma and Florida State are the two most likely land spots. Herman needs to worry about his own program, he hasn’t exactly set the world on fire since joining UT.
King hasn't been that good. I'm not sure this helps us. But it's a lost season. I don't care either way about the maneuver, but I'm sure everyone who loses two games in the first 4 will consider it going forward. The NCAA shouldn't care, because with the college sports dying, they need to extend the careers of talent wherever possible. On the King side, if he can get an illegal payday out of it he should. He will be desireable on footspeed alone. This is his best chance to cash in on and off the field before it's over. If I were him, I'd leave to maximize my only opportunity.
This is just bizarre on so many levels. If Tune or baby Holgo tear it up, D'Eriq may not get his job back. Also, claiming you were never going to leave is total horsecrap since you publicly floated the "I'm deciding whether or not to transfer and will have my announcement by 5PM CST" stuff.
No one knows how this plays out, including King. With Oklahoma having an opening and the connections to FSU, King very well could leave. He has now played under 3 head coaches? At this point the 2019 season is a wash. Better off trying to prepare for 2020.
Ed Oliver has a PRWR as a defensive tackle of 22%, which ranks fourth behind the marks of Grady Jarrett, Aaron Donald and Calais Campbell. That's some pretty fine company.
