So he believes a dictator over his own people. Seriously when are the republicans going to stand up and be real Americans? This is not some partisan issue this is the safety and well being of everyone.

I doubted Trump from the beginning. But I hoped he would actually be successful. Instead, he got taken like a chump. It is not a good thing for this to happen.

If Trump was somebody who came into the job with humility but inexperienced and was actually learning from all of his mistakes, he would be almost decent at the job by this point. But that isn't happening in the slightest.

Even if Trump negotiated NATO troops walking the streets of Pyongyang at this very moment, you wouldnt be happy.

Personally I am thrilled that the troop buildup, and the inevitable confrontation between NK and SK/USA has at minimum has be differed and both sides are talking. If you really thought Kim Jong-un would ever simply hand over the keys to the kingdom on the first summit, you're just stupidly naive.

It's not what I believed. It's what Trump said before the meeting and has since claimed after the meeting. Like I said, I had my doubts from the beginning.

Trump called off the military games which aren't a big deal this one time but if it is continued then that could be a problem. But he gave in to N. Korea on that and got nothing at all in return, but he either believed he had gotten something in return or has at least claimed that he did. He has been walking around tossing out praise to Kim. Trump looks weak foolish and like he doesn't know very much about N. Korea, their history or our history with them.

I am glad that there are talks between Sout and North Korea. I hope they can make progress.

So when’s the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony again?

    .....

Seriously though.... it’s really really bad news for the country if this actually doesn’t work out because Trump won’t have the ability to just settle back into a world isolation strategy again... especially with the games he’s playing with China at the moment. They aren’t going to play along in strengthening sanctions and will probably blame Trump for talk breakdowns.

Which will put Trump in a corner and force him to do something... that something is anyone’s guess.

Important note, Pompeo did not get to meet with Kim.

Remember, trump outright lied twice about about North Korea and the remains of U.S. soldiers... first, that parents of Korean War vets had been contacting him to return the remains (virtually impossible given how long ago the Korean War happened) and second, saying NK had already returned hundreds of remains as a success story of his meetings. His own Secretary of State later admitted that no such thing had happened yet.

    And now...

Identifications of US war dead from Korea could take years, official says
    http://thehill.com/policy/internati...ead-from-korea-could-take-years-official-says

So incredibly offensive that trump would put out such an inhumane lie with the only reason to claim some form of "winning" in light of accommodations he made in the NK meeting. Korean War missing soldier family members now must be so confused and anguished by the false hopes he created.

It appears the cost of the military exercises trump canceled cost a fraction of our military budget, and less than what is spent on trump's golf trips. And unfortunately, should things change between US and NK, the cost of starting up these exercises would be way more than the cost of continuing them.

Perhaps this is why secretary of state pompei didn't deny the story:

Rocket Man: Trump autographs Elton John CD for Kim Jong-un
Mike Pompeo took disc to Pyongyang but did not get a chance to give it to North Korean leader

Again, what in the world possessed trump to think lying about something like (that he got NK to send hundreds of Korean war remains) this would be acceptable?

trump offered up concessions for nothing.

the meeting with kim caused trump to lie to the American public (and the rest of the world) about promises to eliminate nuclear weapons that never happened and the return of Korean war remains returned that never happened... but hey, trump got this very nice note.

So dishonest, so delusional. His own admin has confirmed that NK is not denuclearizing. His own admin has admitted that no Korean war bodies have been returned (and NK officials stood up US officials to even discuss returning them). And satellite pictures show NK has accelerated the upgrading of their nuclear facilities since the meeting.

So trump couldn't have set a lower bar of success...

    https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-44868727

This after making numerous claims of success such as:
So... no remains returned (despite trump's lie that 200 Korean war remains were returned) and NK stood up U.S. officials to even start talking about planning such returns. And now trump says no timetable for denuclearization. Art of the deal (and yea, I know he didn't even write that book).

Reality starting to sink in. With Trump wanting this so much, I'm guessing NK will give bit and pieces from time to time to maintain the string. And what is this demanding more money?

In private, Trump vents frustration over lack of progress on North Korea

Diplomats say the North Koreans have canceled follow-up meetings, demanded more money and failed to maintain basic communications, even as the once-isolated regime’s engagements with China and South Korea flourish.

Meanwhile, a missile-engine testing facility that Trump said would be destroyed remains intact, and U.S. intelligence officials say Pyongyang is working to conceal key aspects of its nuclear program.

The lack of immediate progress, though predicted by many analysts, has frustrated the president, who has fumed at his aides in private even as he publicly hails the success of the negotiations.

“Discussions are ongoing and they’re going very well,” Trump told reporters Tuesday.

The accounts of internal administration dynamics come from conversations with a half-dozen White House aides, State Department officials and diplomats, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive negotiations.

Officials say Trump has been captivated by the nuclear talks, asking staffers for daily updates on the status of the negotiations. His frustration with the lack of progress has been coupled with irritation about the media coverage of the joint statement he signed on June 12 in Singapore, a document that contains no timeline or specifics on denuclearization but has reduced tensions between the two countries.

“Trump has been hit with a strong dose of reality of North Korea’s negotiating style, which is always hard for Americans to understand,” said Duyeon Kim, a Korea expert at the Center for a New American Security.

Trump’s interest in the issue has put a particularly bright spotlight on Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who has tried to wring concessions from his counterpart, Kim Yong Chol, a former spy chief viewed by the Trump administration as uncompromising and unable to negotiate outside the most explicit directives from Kim Jong Un.

A low point from the perspective of U.S. officials came during Pompeo’s third visit to Pyongyang on July 6 when he pressed North Korean officials for details on their plans to return the remains of U.S. soldiers killed during the Korean War, as they had agreed to do in Singapore. The issue had been discussed in several meetings and was viewed by the United States as an easy way for North Korea to demonstrate its sincerity.

But when Pompeo arrived in Pyongyang, the North Koreans insisted they were still not ready to commit to specific plans, according to diplomats familiar with the discussions.

The delay angered U.S. officials, who were under pressure to deliver given Trump’s premature announcement on June 20 that North Korea had already “sent back” the remains of 200 soldiers.
