A friend and I have been discussing about Luis Scola and one thing we couldn't think of was him actually doing something off the court. Has Luis Scola done something like participate in NBA Cares or anything?

This is not a rant towards Scola in anyway, just being curious.

does it matter? He's still new to the league. I'm sure he does something to help out, but not EVERY NBA player player has to actively participate in the community (which he probably does anyways). Let's worry about basketball first.

Like I said, it's out of curiosity. Besides, it's offseason.

"EVER"? you do know he has only been in America for a year? I'd give him more than a year before I ask if he's "ever" helped out the community. You word it like he's been here for 10 years.

What part of "curiosity" do you not understand? Must be the "curiosity" part.

There have been no reports of him helping the community, but he probably does. I dont mind as long as he continues to get better on the court

I'm looking forward to another interview of his from Jason. The Post Olympic interview was nice. I want to hear how is his off season going.Especially what has he been working on.

A little out of topic, but I wanna mention that, in conjunction with the lack of playing time, the community work was what made V-Span snap. There was a video of him doing community work with a blank look in the eyes.

I went to the 'Meet the Rookies" day last year at Toyota Center. Scola was doing a lot of instructional work with the kids that day. He mentioned that he has done camps back home or still might be. I'm sure he feels more connected with his culture than he would here but he was a pretty good teacher when I saw him.

Are basketball players expected to help the community?

Scola could help the community by deleting this thread.

I'm sure Luis has done plenty of charitable work in Argentina and parts of Europe. You just don't hear about it.

He seems like a genuinely nice guy.

I was born and raised in Houston. If I was a Houston Rocket... I would take less money on my contract with the stipulation I don't have to help anybody or do anything in the community. So ya, I don't care.

This is what will happen when the goverment starts to commercialize helping out others. I mean NBA Cares? Are you serious?

No you know what, maybe you are right. Actually what I think we should do with Scola is send him to a re-education camp until he learns the values of community organizing.
