Tried to watch the Avengers this evening, only to get to Edwards Greenway and see that their mandatory parking garage now only accepts cash, of which I didn't have... After fruitlessly driving around the area looking for an alternate place to park (EVERYTHING had tow away signs) I gave up and went home. I will never ever be a patron of that crap-hole place again. Problem is, about the only thing otherwise close to me is the new iPic in the new River Oaks center. I've never been, and I'm not doing VIP for myself. Are the iPic regular seats ok, or are they far too close to the screen? Any other theater venues I'm not seeing? Thanks in advance.
Since ipic popped up a few years ago its been our go to. I don’t have experience in the normal seating but I can’t imagine it being a good viewing angle. I could be wrong though.
Ever since Sundance Cinemas became a shitty AMC, I've been going to Edwards Marq-E. It's not in the loop, but it's just outside of it. Parking is free, and I don't think I've ever had trouble finding a spot.
They had a plan to have one in Midtown like 5-6 years ago but they never got around to it http://houston.culturemap.com/news/...n-houston-suddenly-has-movie-options/#slide=0 fwiw, I usually park near BofA/Buffalo Wild Wings parking lot and just walk over to Edwards Your best bet is the Edwards Marquee, just wish we had more options for theaters with recliners, reserve seating is best thing ever....
Funniest thing ever is that we have Dolby Cinema here on the south side with better recliners than SMG and the loop has to pay $25 to watch a tiny screen at IPic. I have a love affair with Dolby. Can't watch a movie in any other theatre.
Agreed. The dolby cinema screens with recliners at First Colony 24 is awesome and less than $10 if you go before noon. I must be getting old now that going to an 11am movie is my favorite. I still go to Edwards Greenway sometimes because a lot of my friends live inside the loop, but I cry a little inside every time.
You ain't the only one. I only watch Dolby movies from 9:45-1:30pm at the latest on weekends. It's comfy enough that I sometimes pass out.
Ya paying for parking at Greenway is annoying but better to just deal with it, by far one of the cleaner theatres in town IMO. Marq-E is a little further out and pretty good too, parking rarely an issue. Went to AMC Fountains this past weekend and had pretty bad experience, long concession line and theater was filthy.
The big movie companies work to ensure there's nothing fun inside the loop. AMC Sundance Downtown - Used to be my go to, BEFORE AMC bought it. Quiet, good audiences, good selection of food/drinks/snacks. Good, comfortable seating. Mediocre screens. It's trash now that AMC bought it. No more free parking. Bad selection of snacks/etc. Dirty. Poor service. Greenway - Never liked it. Never carry cash to park either. But they have a 2D IMAX which is important. I've seen several pro athletes (including Rockets) at this one. iPic - Loath it. Weird, uninterested, annoying audiences. Weird payment system. Waiters running around the entire time so you can concentrate on the movie. Terrible, TINY screens. Excellent seats, no lines, not a lot of foot traffic, A+ bathrooms. TV/bar so you can catch a game before/after/during. Laid back atmosphere, walk in with your own beer, nobody is going to say anything.
iPic and Edwards are already fighting it out, another contender would get smashed. Edwards is the closest theater to me and my go to. They have always required cash for parking, I think fatty was possibly riding with his designated driver previously and didn't know. It's clean, the prices are half that of iPic but iPic has free parking. You have to walk a bit further there tho.
This. Used to go to Edwards Greenway all the time. My then-girlfriend, now-wife got towed there when we parked nearby because we didn't have any cash. We were there to see Casino Royale... It was 2006. Yes, fatty. It's been an all-cash parking garage for at least 12 years.
