Angels designated INF Luis Valbuena for assignment.
Valbuena has batted an ugly .199/.253/.335 this season and had seen his playing time dwindle. He's still owed about $2.5 million between his salary for 2018 and buyout for 2019 and the Angels have decided to go ahead and eat that money. Valbuena hit just .199/.277/.390 in his two seasons in Anaheim.

I know we don’t want that contract but damn JD Martinez’s numbers would be great in our lineup. Boston really has it going.

His numbers wouldn't be quite that sexy in Houston, he has taken full advantage of Fenway. Not that he's been bad on the road by any means, just crazy good at his very hitter friendly home.

That sucks. I really like Val and was disappointed when he wasn’t re-signed. I realize he was made expendable by Yuli being a better version but he seemed like he was putting it together. He’s going to be one of those vets that moves from rebuilding team to rebuilding team.

Yeah, he was really playing well when he blew up his hammy in '16.

I'd take him over JD Davis right now. JD has actually given me hope despite how terrible he has been because his K-rate has been reasonable, but like Tucker has to quit hitting the ball into the ground.

A's won't go away. Now, I doubt this trade strikes fear into anyones eyes but this has to give another jolt to the A's. Their rotation is solid TBH and they are trying to seize the opportunity to stay close with Astros due to our injuries. Luhnow should really start exploring another trade for a corner OF and/or a SP to cover for a potential McCullers DL stint (season ender).

If they feel the real need for a long term quality starter, it’s going to be hard to find anyone better than McHugh or Peacock at a reasonable price. Right now, they can continue to start the other 4 guys on regular rest for the next two weeks.

I don’t think we need another starting pitcher, we have a number (5-6) that would be better or as good as who we could get.

I do think we need an outfield bat.

Still need confirmation on McCullers injury and yes, a corner OF spot is probably the area to look at. Can never be too sure though. Just as insurance, a SP might be necessary as McHugh has been lights out from pen. Losing that, would weaken bullpen. Keeping guys in their spots would be preferred IMO.

Jeremy Bleich? That's not a name, that's a MAD magazine joke.
