Not a bad release. It's much faster on my computer. Don't know the benefits of all the open codec support though. Get it here
Been running the beta for quite a while now. It is definitely (and noticeably) faster than 3.1, so I highly recommend downloading it. HTML5 and open codecs are the future platform of the web -- less plugins, more integrated functionality (although I'm sure Adobe would love to disagree). You won't gain much from it now other than "oh that's cool" demos, but it's good that Firefox is championing it early.
When Flash installed on 98% of browsers why is it bad? HTML5 + open codec still depend on the browser supporting it. Whereas flash looks the same across browsers.
Didn't say Flash is bad -- I don't have anything against Flash, and I actually appreciate Adobe for the effort it has put into standardizing its plugin across platforms. All I implied was that Adobe might not be fully on board with a new web standards direction that marginalizes the flash plugin almost entirely (canvas tag + open codecs basically means you don't need flash at all for anything). I also disagree that presentation differences between browsers would be an issue. If anything, content presentation should actually improve as the static barrier between dynamic content a la Flash and other page content disappears and there is a lot more in terms of page interactivity (IOW why does my video player or game have to be confined to that rectangular box, living in its own little world separate from the rest of the page)? The bigger issue I see is DRM and providers that may find it more difficult to protect their content. That will probably work itself out over time.
I gave up on Firefox after using it since it first came out. I adopted google chrome a month or so ago and LOVE it. I'll give 3.5 a try though, I hated how slow 3.1 was.
It seems a lot faster than the last version. The only thing I hated about chrome was no add ons....I love mine for FF.
I have to agree. The add ons are what make FF so great. Cool site to see real time rate of downloads http://downloadstats.mozilla.com/
Wow. I just downloaded it, installed it, and ran it in like 90 seconds... AMAZING! Of course, I'll have to wait a little bit for some of my extensions to update, but so far I'm really liking the speed. It's quick like a fox!
Every new browser update, for every browser, usually claims an increase in speed - but I have to say that FF 3.5 is noticeably faster on my computer.
Yeah, my last version of FF was marginally faster than its predecessor, but this one is kickin' butt so far!
Whoa, Opera is back to being hip? Cool. I'm sure when everybody's using those, people will jump on the bandwagon of the next one. Maybe this'll be cool again : http://lynx.isc.org/
