Some people are interested in a fair and fulfilled life, others are interested in winning the countries-game. These two are barely correlated.

For those other people, they would celebrate a situation where the economy is best in the world, unemployment is low, while medical advancements and civil rights show no progress and everyone is on medication or in jail to fuel the economy.

Yes, help me. I think what you're saying is that Sweden will be so overrun with Muslim immigrants that they'll lose their Swedish identity and their Western values. Is that right? And, if that's right, why should I care if Sweden stops being Swedish or Western? If it's a precursor to our own future, why should I care if the United States stopped being American or Western?

I guess that actually answers my question. This is an identitarian issue for you. You foresee and fear cultural change that will dilute the preeminence of your own culture and values, even in places you don't live or in future times you will not live long enough to see. Perhaps you worry your children or grandchildren will become persecuted minorities, a concern I think is totally legitimate. But that's not a concern of mine. I think my kids will adapt with the times. So, circling back to post #377 where you criticize Cortez's socialism because of how Sanders points to Sweden's (pre-Muslim) model as an exemplar of democratic socialism -- yeah, I don't see a problem with that. If that socialism ultimately serves Muslims of Middle-Eastern descent instead of Swedish Christians, that's fine.

 

If we ever get anywhere close to that point I will retire, cash in my 401k, convert it to physical gold and wait for the pending depression. Perhaps I will be able to help my extended family survive the implosion of the economy.

Well she hasn't been yet, but she did win the Democratic primary and in that district you could run literally anyone or anything with DNC backing and they'd be elected without exception.
