Sir Charles via @J.R. at halftime on TNT

Rockets kept trying to play the Warriors way. I don't know why they think they can outscore them. You're not gonna outscore them.

    Fact 1:

    Fact 2

Points allowed in Golden State's last few full strength losses (with Curry + Durant ), not counting the garbage from the end of last season, DNP-Rests, or Durant injury games.

    Last night - 122
    Jun 9 vs. CLE - 137* - (CLE average: 110)
    Feb 28 vs. WAS - 112 (WAS average: 109)
    Feb 9 vs. SAC - 109 (OT) (98 in regulation)(SAC average 102)
    Jan 23 vs. MIA - 105 (MIA average 103)
Jan 17 vs. MEM - 128 (OT) (111 in regulation) (MEM average: 100)
    Dec 25 vs. CLE - 109 (CLE average 110)
    Dec 10 vs. MEM - 110 (MEM average: 100)
    Dec 1 vs. HOU - 132 (2OT) (113 in regulation) (HOU average: 115 0 )
    Nov 4 vs. LAL - 117 (LAL average 104)
    Oct 25 vs. SAN - 129 (SAN average 105)

*NBA FInals- this was probably also the single greatest team offensive 1-game performance in an NBA Finals -or even EVER, setting all kinds of scoring records with the whole Cavs lineup going nuts from 3 in the first half en route to a 49 point quarter and a 85 point half.

Not only is it possible to beat a full-strength Golden State in a high scoring game - it is almost impossible to do so otherwise by slowing them down. Even freaking GRIT AND GRIND Memphis had to put up way more than their 100-point average to win. (other helpful factors - getting them on a road back-2-back, in a 3 in 4, etc). Maybe the Kings were able to do it - once - last season in their street-fight OT victory, but everybody else who had any success with the warriors had to score at least at their normal output but usually WAY WAY more, even defensive, slow paced teams like Memphis and SA.

Yes, you want to play good defense on them - you also want to - in fact, need to - SCORE A LOT OF POINTS. This is how you beat ultra elite, ultra good offensive teams....because they too SCORE A LOT OF POINTS even on a bad night.

    Fact 3
Scoring more points than the other team at the conclusion of the game, is, by my calculations, 100% correlated with wins - this is what I call advanced stats.

"The Rockets can't just stand around and watch Harden shoot every time" - Charles Barkley last night

Rockets score 122. Rockets bench combines for 58 points on 34 shots. Harden and Paul combine for 21 assists. Inside the NBA continues to see its ratings soar.

Barkley lost some weight but is still a dumbass unfortunately. Every moron on that show spews a bunch of **** at halftime and if they end up being wrong they still stick to their guns in the post game analysis

He's not wrong, just watch when Harden has the ball, there is no movement everyone just standing in their spot.

People are still listening to Barkley as if he were an objective, fact-based analyst?

    C'mon.

Totally true, but when we ignore the peddlers of falsehoods in a sense we consent to their lies.

    I do not consent.

This is not normal. Time to destroy the silly back-n-the-day ism that passes for TNT's halftime crew. Like put in somebody (JUST ONE GUY) who actually ....LOOKS AT FACTS?

Barkley is phoning it in as "guy with hot takes" - it's 2017...freaking everyboyd has one now, genius.

    He's not wrong? You sure?

Harden shot the ball 23 times. The Rockets shot the ball 97 times.

He is not right either, Harden sucks the defense in and dishes it out to Ariza or Tucker.... Or anybody else because they can all hit the damn three.... If the defense does stay with the perimeter players Harden has a pretty good shot at a layup or free throws plus getting interior defenses in foul trouble. Its not a bad play, McHale was a clown and he ran it every single time but there is no reason to not run a good bunch because it can be effective..

Thoughtful, insightful, analytical posts like this by OP are the reason I deal with the reactionary gobbledygook that 98 percent of CF folks post. Well done.

It's Shaq. For whatever reason, he's been very negative about CP3 joining us. The other two are just memes that don't want to contradict him at this point. You can see Kenny's been reluctant. Chuck was saying CP3 was useless last night and these guys call themselves analysts. Not only did Paul dish out 11 times and grab 8 big boards, he also made a couple of key stops including the one against David West. So frustrating listening to them last night especially after the win.

except harden ONLY had 27 points and he and paul combined for 21 assists already.. so there was ball movement and everyone wasn't just standing in their spot..

They always dismiss the rockets because they say we are no match for the Warriors. Ok? Guess you should only cover the Warriors this season then.

OTOH, Steven A after the game gave us some major props on ESPN last night.
Granted we were a bit lucky in the end last night, and were not consistent throughout the game, but we still won, at their gym ring night in front of 18k SV fancy narcissists. Watch out when CP3 and Harden figure it out together.

i dont think there was alot of movement last night and thats why i mentioned in the game thread theres a lot of work to be done, despite the W. way too much iso went on last night. the movement by the entire team needs to improve. thankfully theres plenty of season left to work on this to see what works for this team as roles get more defined and chemistry comes along

Can't disagree here. I suppose it's a question of how much time and energy we choose to expend on such a futile exercise.

Barkley isn't going anywhere. Especially since he's just following the anti-Rockets narrative that's become so popular (and therefore, encouraged by TNT and its producers).

TNT/ESPN are in the entertainment business. Barkley (as well as other media) are just playing their bit roles as prescribed in their scripts. The age of objective analysts is over. It's about media personalities who spew incendiary, baseless commentary meant to galvanize the majority while triggering the minority. TNT, We Know Drama.

Some choose to protest and fight the good fight. Others, like me, see the situation for what it is.

Manufacturerd drama. Boring, unimaginative and not worthy of our viewership.

Barkley's comments don't pass any test of sane people. His rhetoric is as tired as his lack of common sense.
