"For two minutes and 32 seconds of pure chaos, a high school state championship game in Rhode Island entered a parallel universe -- and unleashed the longest hardball stalemate of all time.

That's how it came to be that a Portsmouth sophomore named Johnny Pedrotty stood in right field in Game 2 of the Rhode Island state championship series, that a crowd of a thousand fans erupted into profane chaos, that a star infielder almost blacked out from the stress, and that Ulmschneider found himself unsure of how to stop what he'd unleashed. It's how, for two minutes and 32 seconds, baseball broke."

Moral of the story: The best team wins in the long run regardless of tricks and unsportsmanlike behavior on the field.

Typically there'd be some lesson here, but there really isn't one. You'd think there'd be some glory to it, there wasn't. It's just a play that didn't matter except that it lasted over 2 minutes.

If you are a sufficiently skilled sharpshooter, you shoot Pettis before you allow this to happen.
